My next door neighbor girl, Sara, and I are not quite twins. We were each born the same day and each each turned 18 years old, just before we graduated from high school.
I came home Friday, really upbeat because I had just got a paid internship at a local stock broker. I find a do it yourself moving van, parked outside our neighbor’s house and a battle royale going on between her mother and Sara.
I get drafted to move Sara’s bed, dresser and full length mirror into the moving van. I’m then directed to, “Drive the whore girl to her disgrace.”
Sara and I get into the moving van and I fire that there sucker up. I ask Sara, “Where to?”
Sara looks at me and asks, “You don’t know?”
I sigh. “Sara, am I gonna have to smack you upside the head?”
Sara snarls. “Get on the highway, headed East.”
I navigate a few local streets and then we’re on the highway, headed East.
Sara then lectures me, “There are two girls, out of our high school graduating class, who are accused of really nasty sexual things.
I laugh, “Jean was caught, on film, screwing with what supposedly was black Tyrone. Trust me, as a guy who shared a boy’s gym dressing room with Tyrone, the black guy in the film was not Tyrone. Tyrone got a copy of the film and showed it to anyone who would watch, pointing out differences. The dude was afraid of a lynch mob.”
Sara thinks for a moment. She then sighs and says, “There are rumors that there’s more than one other girl from our graduating class, in action, on film. As a result, I have already been turned down by two colleges that once accepted me.”
I’m shocked, “I have heard the rumors, but I know nothing. If it’s causing you to lose your colleges of choice, it’s a real problem.”
Sara sighs, “Jason, every guy who calls me for a date wants me to put out for him. It’s the same thing with my girlfriends.”
I say, “Obviously, you have a plan.”
Sara says, “As long as I stay around here, I’ll be one of the whores. I have to leave, there’s no other way. Leaving costs money. If I just leave, I work for minimum wage or work as a street hooker. I found a place here, where I can earn big bucks and then leave with maybe a million dollars.”
I think things over for a bit. I then ask, “Sara, what did you take in school?”
Sara says “English, Creative Writing, Spanish, History, Choir, Psychology, Freshman Problems, Modern Dance, Senior Problems, Gym.”
I sigh and lecture, “None of that gonna make you a living, ‘cept maybe modern dance, if you do it topless.”
