The Cure for Gambling Addicts
Forward
I decided to write this book because I believe there is a cure for problem gamblers. I used to be one and it had control over my life from the ages of 15 years old to the age of 42. I wasted vast amounts of money of gambling and the bet of choice was on poker machines.
Gambling no doubt destroys lives and like a tick on the back of a cow it sucks the life out of you either slowly or fast. It can do all sorts of devastation and many people have many stories on the devastation it leaves behind. It can affect your character, physical and mental journey in life. It robs you financially and destroys relationships.
It can and has turned people into liars, thieves, selfish minded and aggressive persons and much more. It leads people downs paths that destroy their marriages, education, employments and sometimes sends them to prison, suicide or death.
For the quick fix it offers a lie in exchange for the truth.
This book isn’t about all the nuts and bolts of gambling, its history, the stats and all the legalities of it but a simply way to walk away from it without having to do life in rehabilitation gambling rooms for the addict who wants their normal life to return.
As we are all different there are many ways to address rehabilitation and the value of money however this is how I walked away from it and I hope it helps you.
Before I go into this I want to say that there are many people who have walked away from gambling and have many more years up as in not have gambled compared to me. In writing this book I have close to 2 years up without having a bet. I don’t think its appropriate to wait until I have 20 years up to write on it because people need help now.
Firstly, there are counsellors and rehabilitation centres for gambling addicts. Some go for private counselling on an ongoing basis, some go to Gamblers Anonymous meetings and some just walk away from it altogether.
However, people get help, there are certainly benefits from outside conventional ways including long-term support.
There may be places around the planet where people don’t have access to the group meetings for ex gamblers or professional counselling services.
This book would certainly benefit these people as long as things are applied to one’s life.
However, before I get into it I wouldn’t be doing the gambling rehabilitation programs around the world good service, found either privately or in group rooms if I didn’t mention the benefits of what they can offer outside of how I walked away from it.
So, this leads us to the first chapter of the book. Professional services and group rehabilitation
