This publication was written with you in mind, in the hopes of taking you on an entrepreneurial road trip to that place you dream about at night when you close your eyes. That dream that seems to play itself out similar to a movie in your mind. You see, although the body itself drifts off into a deep sleep when we lay down during the evening to wee hours of the morning, your mind itself never actually falls completely asleep. It stays somewhat awake, alarmed and full of plans, and sometimes will begin to play scenes that align with your creative ideas. This book will assist you in developing those dreams into reality, while providing you with the knowledge you will need in order to succeed. If you’re reading this book, then it’s likely that you’re either an aspiring entrepreneur who’s looking to launch a new business idea, or you’re an existing entrepreneur who’s looking to further expand your business. Each of them happens to be the result of three different levels of workmanship and work performances the individual brings forth. In order to reach your full potential, you must find your passion, while maintaining motivation, so that you can stay dedicated to your dreams while thriving on inspiration. If I told you that you will always have an endless burning flame that will stay lite no matter what the circumstances are, I would be telling you something that is untrue, and there would be no need for this entrepreneurial how-to guide to have ever been written and distributed. Instead, you will experience unmeasured levels of circumstances that may require adjustments and re-adjustments on your end. This will cause you to enter into numerous forms of feelings and emotions. As entrepreneurs, feelings and emotions are how we deal with our journeys of entrepreneurship. During your travels you’re going to experience feelings as well as emotions you may have never even knew existed. This is how we realize our strengths, weaknesses and capabilities. It’s important that we allow ourselves to feel our inner emotions. As an entrepreneur, remember that you’re a human being before anything else. Throughout the years, I’ve seen entrepreneurs, some successful, and some not so successful, that are nothing more than a shell. They don’t feel anything. They tend to cut themselves off from their feelings and emotions, while only focusing on the promised land that they have envisioned for themselves. This is the biggest mistake one could possibly make when becoming a new business owner. You must be in touch with your feelings and emotions when operating a business. If you’re unable to feel your emotions, how can you align yourself with workers who possess feelings? I am sure you have at one time had an employer who you dreaded walking down the hall towards their office to ask a question, simply because they appear to seem detached from their emotions. I can recall years ago when I experienced a death in my family and needed a day off to attend the funeral. When entering my employer’s office to explain the untimely death in the hopes of gaining some level of understanding, they had no regard and instantly denied me the one day off of work. They didn’t even want to hear about the situation at all. This form of behavior is a big no-no for aspiring entrepreneurs as well as existing entrepreneurs. You have to care for not only your business, but also for those that help the business thrive on the daily basis. Even if you don’t grant the employee the day off from work, you should be able to express compassion. If you don’t possess this ability to feel emotions, it will bleed out onto your employees, and before you know it, they will become numb and nonengaged, which will make it difficult to reach the daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual goals of the overall organization. Stay in touch with your emotions, but be sure to not let them control you or drown you into your feelings. You have to find the balance of being in touch with emotions, while also running your corporation in a stern, strong and disciplined manner. Running a business takes a lot of work and will pull your emotions from every corner of you throughout each work day, and many times, this will happen without us even knowing it’s happening. Our emotions are also in place to assist us with making minor and major decisions.

    How many times have we made some solid choices based on the wants and needs of our employees, while placing our very own wants, needs and desires to the side momentarily to assist with their emotions? How many times have we stopped to listen a dilemma of one of our employees on the sales floor and how it affected them, and revamped procedures due to the emotions we felt behind the employee's story? It all boils down to cooping and maneuvering throughout our emotions in order to operate your company through a heart. I can’t professionally nor personally think of anyone that would want to do business with a company that they felt had no compassion for the individuals involved in the process, whether the individuals are customers, employees, business associates, investors, lenders, and so on. The company has to shed a light of compassion through the products or services that it provides. Customers highly appreciate this level of service. It makes their experience become more personable. Those that will patronize your business will clearly pick up on the compassion of the company from the moment they enter into your establishment. Some of the ways that customers recognize the compassion of a company is through the upkeep of the store, how the employees present themselves, how knowledgeable the personnel appear to be about the company’s products or services, and how well the leaders of the company engage with its customers. One of the first things I catered to when establishing my very first company was to focus on perfecting high-quality customer service, which I wanted everyone within my business to master. In order to do this, I had to be compassionate about the wants and needs of the community in which my company would serve. Being compassionate about their wants and needs requires becoming intertwined with them and developing a brand that would in some way or various ways provide a helpful way for them to get a step closer to their goals regardless of what their goal entailed.

    If someone who is a business owner of a department store began to notice that many of their customers were inquiring about air fryers, they might decide to carry a collection of air fryers to entice my company’s clientele. However, for the business owner to provide a great selection, and products of quality, they would need to be compassionate enough to understand the customers wants and needs. Does the majority of the customers require a certain size frying basket? Does the majority of the customers prefer that the air fryer be easy to store away? Does the majority of the customers require that the air fryer be well-equipped with many features? Does the majority of the customers require that the air fryer be packaged with recipes that cater to their everyday lifestyle diet? Does the majority of the customers require that the air fryer be simple to operate? These are all of the questions that are important to a business owner when narrowing down the products to select. When an entrepreneur is compassionate about the wants and needs of their client base, they will stop at nothing in order to satisfy their customers. The emotions that are associated with entrepreneurship are utilized throughout the process and tends to be more important than securing a sale, so that the company can avoid its patrons wasting their hard-earned money on products or services that they may not what or be attracted to. It’s best to implement these traits into your lifestyle as early as possible. Before we dive into the following chapters of this entrepreneurial how-to guide, I will take you into my history, upbringing and background, while filling you in on how it all started for me. A long road it has been I must say. From the outside looking in, many have stated in the past, just how easy it seems to have been for me. As if everything tended to fall into my lap without any obstacles. Not so, not so at all. In fact, nothing fell into my lap without lots of hard work. Let me be the first to tell you that my journey has been everything but easy.

    My path has been very rewarding, yet it has been full of lessons to be learned every step of the way. It seems just like yesterday, I was a little boy running around my home tugging on my parents, older brother’s and older sister’s pants legs asking each of them millions of questions. I had a bright light in my eyes, a glow in my spirit, and a flame that didn’t seem to burn out, even when all the lights in my home would be turned off at night. I can remember laying in my bed, tossing and turning, while dreaming of being someone successful one day. I must admit, I didn’t know what any of it meant at the time, but I knew that before I left this world, I wanted to be impactful and influential for many to encounter. I didn’t know which steps I would need to take to get there. After all, I was just a kid. I didn’t know it then, but the need to gather tons of information was already beginning to seed itself deep within me. I wanted to know as much as I possibly could get my hands on. I began to possess the ability to remember just about anything and I could retain information accurately. I could even recite just about anything to just about anyone I came across without any hesitation. I later realized that this was a gift many may call a talent. Let’s press the rewind button so I can take you back to the beginning of my entrepreneurial story. I grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, within a household with two loving and caring parents. A father who was affectionate and a hard-working man, who was also a serial entrepreneur. He was a talented musician who taught me the ropes of how to mold myself into a well-trained entertainer. I also had the pleasure of being raised by a nurturing mother, who was attentive and also a hard-working woman. Through such leadership, I was well-equipped with the morals, values, spirituality and goals needed so that could lay a solid foundation for myself and those close to me. It wasn’t long before the dreams I once experienced at night as a kid began to mold themselves into reality. As I grew into a young teenager, I became even more energetic, high-spirited and goal-oriented. I knew that I could be anything I put my mind to, but I also knew that I had to stay focused as I was sure that life would throw curve-balls from time to time. During my teenage years, I was loving life, but had no direction just like most teenagers. Of course, I went through the peer pressure, bullying, low self-esteem, non-confidence, uncertainties, and the need to want to make my parents proud in-spite of disappointments and mistakes that I made. I knew in my heart that I wanted to soar to the sun and the moon, to ensure that my parents felt proud of what I had accomplished. I wanted to be sure that the upbringing they provided for me was all worth the time, dedication and consistency they invested throughout the years. That those long talks and lectures (And gosh, were there a lot of those), were actually listened to and not just heard, so I could apply the knowledge towards me wanting to become successful. Before I entered into the world of entrepreneurship, there were so many things about me as an individual that I wanted to improve. I wanted to get in touch with my feelings, emotions, flaws, shortcomings, and unresolved issues of my past, so that my entrepreneurial journey would excel without any set-backs. I knew that once the ball started rolling, there would be no time to try to figure those things out. I knew in order to have the best entrepreneurial experience that business-ownership could offer, I needed to be the best me possible. I needed for the spiritual me, emotional me, mental me, and physical me, to all be in-tack and ready for my entrepreneurial road trip. I remember the year that I came to terms with what I wanted to do with my life. It instantly assisted me with the beginning steps to reaching my full potential. It was an amazing experience and I knew the picture in my head appeared to be rewarding and exciting. However, I haven’t yet been informed that the fluffy picture would entail lots of hard work, lessons to be learned, and mastering the elements that the picture in my head consisted of. Once I accepted those terms, and educated myself on entrepreneurship, I was well on my way to what I envisioned for myself, my future and my destiny to be.

    So, you ask How did I start my entrepreneurial journey?

    Starting my entrepreneurial road trip wasn’t too difficult, yet it was quite confusing being that it was my very first time at the rodeo and there weren’t many heads that I could brain-pick for information and ideas. I also didn’t have many industry contacts or industry connections to help guide me through the steps. I had to accept that I was on my own for the time being. Even with tons of family and friends that supported anything I would put my hands on, I had very few entrepreneurs that I could rely on that would take me by the hand and show me the direction in which I should be heading towards. At this time, this seemed extremely frustrating, but it took for me to grab my very own hand and guide myself through unclear pathways to learn the many facets of becoming a well-respected businessman. Seems like just yesterday I can remember sitting in my mother’s basement at an old raggedy desk with a lopsided lamp and a laptop that happened to be clinging onto its last leg. With no resources, contacts, connections, names, phone numbers, email addresses, equipment and networking invitations, I found myself standing in the land of the lost, but I knew that no matter how many years it may take, that I would soon contain all the experience I needed to succeed. I didn’t have a black book handed to me with all the movers and shakers included. I had to spend unmeasured amounts of hours, days, weeks, months, and years, gaining my very own resources. When I look back throughout time, I feel extremely proud of the desire I possessed, and how I poured that desire into building my very own empire.

    So, you ask What happened next during the start-up of my first company?

    A lot. For starters, I got my shovel and started digging. I dug into my spirit, emotions, mentality, and physical state, so that I could resolve various issues and flaws within my life. I took the time to work on myself. The better I became, the better I would feel. The better I felt, the better I could function. The better I functioned, the better I could perform. The better I performed, the better my company could operate. It all solely depended on me. No employee wants a leader who is all over the place. Someone who is unstable with their very own self. In order to lead, being solid and sure are highly important. The inner you should be tended to constantly in order to ensure that you’re healthy enough to lead an organization. Once I had gotten all these elements in tack, I then began to prepare my new company for its launch, being that I knew I wanted my piece of the entrepreneurial pie. I wanted in on the American Dream. Oh yes, I wanted to be part of what I heard millions of people throughout the world buzzing about. That sense of independence sparked me in a way that I never imagined. I envisioned my entrepreneurial road trip being one filled with knowledge, information and education. I found myself extremely excited and ready to travel a wonderful journey. That vision that I once pictured within my head and within my dreams, I knew at some point would come true. I knew it wouldn’t be long, I just did know exactly when. I also was very confident that I was well on my way towards it. I can recall a historic artist and poet once saying The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life, a saying that I kept on repeat inside of my mind, to help inspire myself throughout the beginning stages of my career. This statement helped me launch my first company, as I now understood clearly, that anything I wanted to grow must be the result of a seed that needed to be planted. So, I took my shovel, dug a hole, planted my first seed and worked extremely hard until I saw that seed grow itself into something tall enough for the world to see.

    So, you ask What exactly is the American Dream?

    The American Dream consists of many things, and in just a moment we will dive into the history of the American Dream. Let me take you back through a time machine of the American Dream that many Americans envisioned for themselves many years ago. A dream that lives deep down in each of us, if we just tap into it deep enough. At times, we all may become discouraged and feel that that the American Dream is far too difficult to achieve, while others may feel that it’s too hard to find. However, it happens to be a lot close than you may think. It happening around you each and every day. If you stay focused, knowledgeable, dedicated, sharp and consistent, it’s yours for the taking. Although everyone’s dreams are different from one another, the one thing we all have in common, is the desire to reach the dreams we have imagined for ourselves within our minds, hearts and souls. The time has come for you to gear yourself up for greatness. Let’s get you on your way towards your entrepreneurial road trip, an exciting journey that you will be able to call your very own American dream.

    The American Dream

    The American Dream is a national ethos of the United States, the set of ideals (Democracy, Rights, Liberty, Opportunity and Equality) in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social mobility for the family and children, achieved through hard work in a society with few barriers. In the definition of the American Dream stated by an American historian, which mentions Life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement. Regardless of social class, race, and circumstances. The historian who was also a writer went on to say that It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they’re innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth and/or past or current position. I would have to say that those are truly words to live by indeed. If we could only take a moment to think about how for so many years there has been avenues available to us all to pursue a journey to reach our greatness, we may be stunned at what we could have been today. However, it’s never too late to get your piece of what is available to you. For so long, many have felt that settling to work a job where they may be living paycheck to paycheck is what they envisioned for themselves, when in all actually, it may just be a stepping stone to you reaching your greatness. For some, it was only meant to be temporary, and that temporary state of mind became a more permanent state of mind, causing one to become comfortable and complacent. Not wanting to fall into a repetitive mode, is the main reasons I starting my first company and due to its independence, I launched this entrepreneurial how-to guide to help encourage those who may have gotten comfortable in their current situation. Take the time to revisit who you once desired to be and ask yourself Why are I not the person I once desired to be?. Aren’t you worth that five-minute talk with yourself? Should you take this time to ask these forms of questions to yourself, you will most likely regain that drive, fire and passion you once had. Throughout life, we at times may become side-tracked, but it’s a major accomplishment to realign yourself with who you were really destined to be. We sometimes get so engulfed with our everyday lives and its demanding tasks that we do not invest in our very own dreams. Instead, we work intensely on helping others pursue their dreams with no bright future of moving up to a high position. If we don’t acknowledge how important our dreams are to us, we cannot possibly turn them into goals. Ultimately, they never happen, which is a very large price to pay for not pursuing your destiny. So, get that notepad and pen ready, and let’s start you off onto your very own entrepreneurial road trip. While traveling, you will have the opportunity to educate yourself on national as well as international historical facts regarding independence, liberty, opportunities, possibilities and the constitutional rights that has contributed to the overall success of some of the world’s greatest men and phenomenal women. The words that they spoke many years ago, which became the concrete to success for those who understand the language and the concept of entrepreneurship. Many historians have made various quotes, comments, and debates that raise engagement and lessons that can carry you as an entrepreneur very far. Whenever you may be in doubt, discouraged, uncertain, non-confident or in fear.
