    What Is Authorship and Why Is It Important?

    Once you finished the writing and publishing process, your next question was probably, What’s next? Writing a book is so much more than producing a finished product. Someone has to purchase it, read it, and like it. But they must first know that it exists, and getting your book discovered by its target audience and sold requires the author to put in additional work. Once the shock wears off that there’s so much more to writing a successful book than actually crafting a story or sharing your expertise, you must become a master of authorship. Authorship means the occupation of writing, and the word occupation implies that you’ve got to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

    The scope of authorship includes being responsible for the stewardship of the created work. It’s your baby because you created it. In order to see it reach full maturity, you have to embrace your newfound responsibility to ensure its success. As a self-published author, that responsibility extends to the editing, publishing, marketing, book sales, project management, etc. That’s the first purpose of this e-book—to help you measure the results of your hard work and use that data to improve future sales. We’ll cover this topic in Chapter 1 below.
