The Self-Publishing Guru - The Book Marketer
Introduction
Hello and welcome to the Book Marketers’ resource guide. The Book Marketer is a hub for a network of established authors, skilled book promoters, publishers, copy-editors, designers and social media experts who have come together to support new authors. We run training and online zoom coaching sessions to help writers understand the world of self-publishing, organise their book launches, marketing strategies, and develop their author platforms. This is a list of useful tools and services we have used as authors, and found very helpful with the time-consuming art of selling books. Book publishing is very competitive. It is said that, most years, 98 per cent of the books published sell 5,000 copies or less. We need to get our marketing skills up to the point where we move into that top 2 per cent. You’re going to have to find your audience and let them know your book will either entertain, inform or solve their problems. The potential to earn more money is far greater as an indie author, given that royalties from online bookstores are in the region of 70 per cent compared to around 7.5 per cent from traditional publishers. Another benefit is that your self-published work will not be taken out of print. Traditional publishers will often pulp your books if you aren’t showing a profit after 12 months. The indie author can continue to develop her marketing skills for the rest of their career.
However, with the freedom of self-publishing comes the responsibility to establish your author platform and market your books. It is up to you to write your novel, edit it, proofread it, format it, develop your author
