About this ebook

For the very young, this book is for reading to kids from age five. For capable youngsters who will be reading it alone, the book is suitable for age six and above. The large illustrations identify the unique and unusual feature. For a juvenile readership, the characters portrayed are all in their upper teens.

To classify this book as easy-reading does point out the general use of short words. Only an occasional difficult word, or a few having three syllables, may call for help from an adult. The story describes ordinary hardships attributable to work and certain unfriendly behavior on the part of the Grot. This is solved by a parody upon a well-known fairy tale, leading to a happy ending.

This book is accompanied by an e-book version. When used under an operating system such as Windows 8, it provides ReadPlay for children. It is well suited to being read at Christmastime.

Author

Brian Warburton

After schooling in Lancashire, UK, during World War 2, Brian was briefly in the army, along with millions of others. He was stationed in Southern Europe, helping to guard life and get back to normality. Afterward, Brian graduated from the University of Bristol and, much later, gained a Fellowship in Civil Engineering. He has worked in Iran, Pakistan, and a total of four years in Canada. Now, in Dorset, UK, he studied and developed the art of writing for children. Brian is interested in presenting for children the world of adults, their lives, and their work. Having recently published the book Sappers Six,* about military engineers, following this current book, he has another in preparation. This will deal with an industry and some of the less-attractive features of people in commerce. The author is married and has two daughters and a son. Having reached retirement, following an interesting and wide-ranging career in construction, the author pursues hobbies that are equally varied. He plays a little bridge in the evenings, does puzzles, gets some exercise by swimming, and listens to music and opera.
