Emma Lou Connolly breezes through Riding House Café in Fitzrovia, London, with her wide smile and cute wave summing her up instantly. Removing her red beret and vintage Burberry trench (a thrifty eBay find), she presents her new Stine Goya checked sweater, “It arrived today, so I wore it,” she declares, as she takes a seat.
Emma Lou is known for many things; she was first a model, but has since become a successful influencer, with nearly half a million followers, brand ambassador, winemaker and founder of The Greedy Model Instagram handle – a new venture born during lockdown with a growing following that is currently at 170k.
Growing up in Dunblane, Scotland, Emma was often told by friends and family she could be a model. “It’s not that I didn’t want to be one, but it was never really an option, where I was from there wasn’t really that scene.”
Then, aged 17, she was approached by a model booker from Colours Agency in Glasgow, who suggested she could indeed try modelling. But she later met with the wider team who said, at 5’ 7.5” (“I would always cling onto that half an inch”), she was too short.
