From the Author
These are my thoughts about my weight loss journey. I put my thoughts in a book in hopes that my story would inspire, motivate, and help others who wish to say good bye to their FAT Girl. I believe that my journey was a realistic and sensible one that has yielded a lifestyle change and 85 pounds of weight loss without deprivation or drastic medical intervention.
My journey was actually in two stages. I lost 65 pounds on my own, between June 2003 and February 2004, by reducing my caloric and fat intake and incorporating exercise. I lost 20 pounds between April 2010 and August 2010 by following the well known point system of Weight Watchers. I have truly been on a journey that I know is never ending. I have embraced my journey and all the challenges that come with it. Do not be fooled! Weight loss is a journey, and there isn’t a quick fix.
I have included tips for others to consider when embarking on their weight loss journey. My message is simple—anybody can lose weight by being mentally focused, not using a crutch, having a food intake plan, moving regularly, and having a support system.
I believe weight loss is an individual process, and each person must find his or her own way. This book is not designed to tell anybody what to do or what plan to follow. It is simply my story. Knowing who you are, what works for you and what you need to be successful and then putting those things to work for you is the road map for successful weight loss. Hopefully, my experience will inspire you, motivate you, and maybe help you to NOT BE A FAT Girl ANYMORE!

This book would not have been possible without the support of my friends and family. A very heartfelt and sincere thank you is extended to Dr. Gerrelyn G
Patterson. She was a great motivator and editor. G helped me to remain on target by editing and providing insight to make the book better. Even when her family needed her, she was committed to giving me feedback to meet my deadlines. I appreciate G for helping to make this book better than I could have imagined.
I also thank Derrick Hall for staying on top of me to complete the book. Once I mentioned that I wanted to write a book, he continued to push me to begin the writing process. He would ask why I had not started yet. He helped me to realize that all I had to do was to start typing, and the words would come.
A very special thank you goes to Cynthia Martin for all of her undying support through all of my life’s celebrations, struggles, weight loss, and the completion of this book. Cynthia read the very first draft when it was just 13 pages to let me know if my writing would grab a reader’s attention and motivate the reader at the same time. Throughout the writing process she helped me flesh out details and things to include. Cynthia always demonstrates unconditional love and support. She is a blessing to my life.
I also say thank you to all my friends who went along the weight loss journey with me: Kimberly Bracy, Cynthia Martin, Amanda McClure, DeShawna Gooch, Cherreka Kiel, Tonya Maybrey, Cheresa Clemons, Dekova Hall, and Micara Lewis. My weight loss journey would have been incomplete without
