      What's that? Joe, the bartender asked as he finished up with a customer and started cleaning one of the mugs.

      I just don't understand how women like that chick behind me there, he said, surreptitiously pointing to a beautiful blonde, can get laid at the drop of a hat. I mean, I've been here for two whole hours and not one chick has come up to me. Two hours!

      The bartender laughed. Reckon as far as I can see, the womenfolk want the man to be in charge and do all the singing and courting, he said in his thick, Texas drawl.

      Dave nodded at his friend's advice. He was right, of course, but that didn't mean he had to like it. He'd never been one of those alpha types that always got the girls. Every day that he didn't have someone to cuddle up with at night ate at him.
