      Hello, yes, Beth? I asked nervously, trying not to panic - at least too much. This is Janice. I need you to come over immediately. No, I can't explain right now. Just...hurry. You're not going to believe what happened to me.

      Sweat rolled down my forehead as I punched the red button and closed the lid of my phone. I held it close to my chest, closed my eyes and sighed.

      How on earth did I get myself into this mess?

      My big Lab, Duffy came up to me, sniffed me and gave me a quizzical look. This must be ultra hard for him, I mused as I let him out into the backyard.

      Several minutes later, I heard an insistent banging on the back door. It was Beth. Oh God, what was she going to think?

      She took one look at me, made a scowl and said, You're right. I don't believe it. She pushed past me, flopped her purse, cell phone and keys on the kitchen table and turned to me.

      All right girl, she said, looking straight into my eyes. Spill it.

      I closed my eyes took a deep breath and brushed a tear from my eye. I really don't know how this all came to be.
