About this ebook

“Why did you choose this life, Johnnie? What is so special about it?”
My motorcycle club. My family. Or, is it? It sure is the closest thing I have to a family. We are like brothers; we love each other a lot and would do anything to protect each other and what we have. That’s why me and Sean joined the “Brothers of Fire” in the first place. We saw something we liked; something that neither of us had: A close bond.

Life as a member is great. We party all the time, we get lots of women and we answer to no one. Cops? We don’t worry about them; they’re on our payroll.

One night, Sean gets hurt. His life hangs by a thread; I have to find help, ASAP. I stop at the first house that I come across. Susan lets us both in. I’ve never opened up to anyone before. Should I do the same with her?

    Chapter One

I’m not going to say this twice, boys. Tom grumbled. Johnnie squeezed his lips, thinking to himself that he had been right all along, whereas Sean turned to his friend, too shocked to utter a word. At that very moment, a bullet shattered the rear window of Tom’s truck. In a split second, his head was thrown forward. The gun slipped through his fingers, as he banged his head against the steering wheel. Blood was oozing from a small hole in the back of his head. Both Johnnie and Sean whipped their heads around, curious about the identity of the shooter. A black sedan had stopped, right behind them. Its lights were off. They could not stay in the truck any longer. Johnnie jumped out of the vehicle, as a young, slender blonde exited the car, with a gun in her hands. She looked strangely familiar. Johnnie recognized her in seconds. It was Mary Cole, one of the girls that he and Sean had grown up with in the orphanage.

Still, he had no idea about her intentions. He reached into his waistband and pulled his gun, as Sean joined him. Johnnie raised it and aimed her. She had been keeping an eye on him, from the moment that he exited the car. Mary was not intimidated at all. She raised her gun and pointed at him as well.

Mary? He squinted at her, as a raindrop landed on his left cheek.

Johnnie? Sean? What the hell are you guys doing here? She wondered, her voice filled with tension.

I was about to ask you the same thing. Johnnie said, tightening his grip on the handle. Put your gun down.

That bastard shot me, a few weeks ago. Mary maintained, but she would not oblige. We were partners. He stole my money and killed my fiancée. I barely made it. How did you end up here?

Upon hearing her last sentence, Johnnie lowered his gun.

Actually, you just saved our asses. He confessed. We…

I know. She interrupted him. I’ve been watching you; I saw what you did. I just didn’t know you guys were his partners. And that’s no way to treat someone you haven’t seen in six years.

Yeah, you’re right. Johnnie said with a nod, putting his gun back in his waistband. He walked up to her and gave her a cordial hug. Sean followed suit, but they could no longer stay on the road. The rain became stronger and, even though there were hardly any cars passing by, they had to take the money out of Tom’s truck and disappear, as quickly as possible. With a dead body in such close proximity, they could not go to the warehouse, either.

We need a place for the night. Johnnie remarked.

There’s a nice hotel in Beaver Falls. She informed, as Sean pulled four bags of money out of Tom’s truck. That’s where I live.

I knew there was something wrong about Tom. Johnnie shook his head sideways, a hint of anger in his voice. "I never liked that
