A Promise made.
A Love that will Last Forever.
If you've ever loved someone to the depth of your being, someone who for one reason or other needed to move on, you know the power of a parting wish. The story of Joseph and Anne, his wife of fifty-three years, is the story of just such a wish—one that only true love could try to achieve. And for Joseph the strength to build the stone wall—a special reminder from Anne's childhood—will take him places he never expected and that you will never forget.
The Pearls of the Stone Man takes us beyond generations and our own stone walls to the very humanity that unites us all—and shows us the incredible power of one couple's love to last beyond parting and forever change the lives of those they touched.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5the pearls of the stone manEdward MooneyAnne and Joseph are the main couple in this lovely novel by Edward Mooney. It is rare, I find, to read about the love of elderly married people who choose to love one another for always and never let go. I think this is why "the pearls of the stone man by edward mooney, jr. is so special. Throughout the novel I felt feelings of hope. Chronic illness nor weakness of mind and/or body do not necessarily destroy the love two people hold for one another. Edward Mooney Jr. uses pearls and stones to measure the love of these two people.I love collected letters in a book. There are letters scattered in this novel. The letters are discovered in odd places at times when a sorrowing soul needs to hear the whisper of love in a practical way once again. I dwelled on the fact that these letters had been written at a desperate time in Anne's life for someone else. Then, they were read by Joseph in a present time of desperation. " I rediscovered the fact that loves grows. True love is like a spinning top toy twirling outwards and around and around making the world seem like it's made of a rainbow of colors. In the pearls of the stone man, I met Tim, Shannon, Isaiah, Shannon's mother. I won't tell their stories. Their parts in the novel are amazing. Needless to say I hope one day to be able to build a stone wall on a piece of property. Although, I am an older person, I have the hope that my ability to pick up the stones, shape the stones and put them in place will not feel exhausting. I will feel rejuvenated because it's all about never ending love. Love is a "pearl" of great price. Pearls and stones of different shapes shift and change like the love in our everyday lives. Mending Wall by Robert FrostTo each the boulders that have fallen to each. And some are loaves and some so nearly ballsWe have to use a spell to make them balance:'Stay where you are until our backs are turned!'We wear our fingers rough with handling them.

Joseph and Anne's story begins with a marriage of over 50 years. How common is that in today's world? It's a novel with many themes including commitment. They stayed together through thick and thin until Anne was diagnosed with Cancer. She had one request, that Joseph finish the stone wall he began for her. He became committed to this project as well. It's also a book about dealing with grief and how people face loosing a loved one. The stone wall became not only a symbol of Joseph's love for Anne, but also a memorial to her. Joseph works to complete the wall even after Anne's death. It was a very compelling book, that brought me to tears.Joseph also learns a lot about forgiveness as the works to mend the wall and his relationship with his son. He also, reaches out to a young teenager that needs someone almost as much as he does. This was a great book, that I know you will like, especially if you were following the video series we did on, The Pearls of the Stone Man.I give this one 4 out of 5 apples from my book bag!
