About this ebook

Spiritism studies the spiritual world and assigns natural causes to all spiritual phenomena, everything has a scientific explanation and everything obeys natural laws. Spiritism also aims to the moral transformation of mankind, modeling the Spiritism principles after those taught by Jesus Christ, notably the true expression of love and charity. In this book, rather than discussing love and charity, the opposite is examined; greed. Greed in politics, corporate greed, and bankers’ greed, the greed that corrupts societies and oppresses people, for greed is the root of all evil.
For the newcomer, the principles of Spiritism may be confusing but there is one easy rule of thumb to remember: when you die you go home.

    FOREWORD

    by Paul M. Gori

Boom. Banker greed. Bust. Taxpayer bailout. Inflation… Since the mid 40's we have had 12 boom-bust cycles. Each bust results in taxpayers absorbing the cost. Surely we can do better than this. The traditional banking system is far from perfect, we might even say flawed, but it's certainly ingrained in our culture, and it's generally the first place we consider when we want to buy a house or a car or consolidate credit card debt or we simply want a relatively safe place to park our money. Recently, I considered an equity line of credit to pay off income taxes that would result from a large IRA disbursement. Who did I think of first? Well, that would be Wells Fargo the folks that once held my first mortgage. I looked at other bank offerings as well, and as Mr. Pallotta notes, there's not much competition out there. Most products are very similar: a 1-year loan at 2.85%, a 3-year loan at 5.2%, and a 10-year loan at 5.7%, and each had a $75 annual fee and a $500 prepayment penalty. The interest rates vary slightly, but they're basically similar. Hmm…

Our ultimate goal, of course, is to prevent the financial system from blowing up over and over again.

There is a quasi-alternative system out there looking to upend the current financial system and it goes by several monikers: online lending, peer-to-peer lending, and crowdsourcing. They seek to offer essentially the same functions as our traditional banking system, but devoid of many negative consequences, including bankers’ greed and taxpayer-funded bailout costs. Lending Club has been around the longest, since 2006, but there are quite a few others that have sprung up over the years: SoFi, Prosper, and Advent Credit are just a few. How do they operate? Well, it's very simple, actually. They take a small fee for matching lenders and borrowers. Lenders provide source capital. So, under this alternative banking system we get the traditional banking functions: a personal vault, and a marketplace that matches people in need of a loan with people with a little extra money to loan. That's a good start.

Can this crowdsourced alternative system allow us to bypass the traditional banking system? Well, not quite yet, and maybe never, but only time will tell. The Lending Club CEO was embroiled in some legal trouble during the latter part of 2016 and was forced to resign. Yes, unfortunately, it was greed-based. That incident sent shudders throughout the industry during the latter part of 2016 and most of 2017, but I don't think this concept is heading to the garbage heap. Right now, the products are limited. For example, I haven't seen any loans over $40k and the rates are higher than traditional sources, but in this new universe, the risks are carried, not by all taxpayers, but only those invested in a particular loan. We have a great start, and one I hope will advance once loan limits increase and lending models advance. So the next time we have a financial system meltdown, and you can bet that will happen again, I'm sure this concept will be revisited.

    INTRODUCTION

As far as I can remember my father was a spiritist, he used to have biweekly sessions or meetings, alternating locations between our home and his fellow spiritists’ homes, every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00 pm started the spiritist sessions. On May 24, 1963, my dad founded and registered the Center for Psychic Studies Jesus of Nazareth. After much savings he was able to build a small house to serve as the Center’s permanent address, it was a very simple building with a small office and a larger conference room with rows of chairs dividing the room into two sections, one for males and one for females. My dad’s inner circle of fellow spiritists sit in the front rows to help with their concentration on the medium-spirit interaction. Facing the rows of chairs were three larger chairs; one for the director, my dad, one for the medium or channeler, and one for an occasional guest.

I remember the five books of Allan Kardec (Lyon 1804-1869) in my dad’s library and even though his work on Spiritism was inspired by Kardec’s teachings, I never saw my dad read these books or discuss their contents. My dad didn’t read about Spiritism, most of his knowledge came from the spirits themselves through channeling.

In a typical session, the director asked to turn off the lights, he started a reel-to-reel tape recorder, and welcomed all the presents. Then he improvised a short prayer until he heard the heavy breathing of the medium and a conversation started with the customary greeting Good evening brother.

The director’s goal was to engage the visiting spirit in a comfortable conversation and to keep the communication fluid through follow-up questions and encouraging comments. The director had no saying in who would come to visit or what the topic would be, sometimes was an advanced spirit with valuable teachings, sometimes was a spirit who didn’t know he was passed away, and sometimes was a spirit who came to make fun of us and test our patience. Often the phony ones were not obvious, my dad was like a skillful trial lawyer cross-examining a deceptive defendant. I never witnessed a phony spirit fool my dad.

Sessions in which the visiting spirit didn’t know he was passed away were particularly moving, the spirit consulted with the director about the strange circumstances he was living in, his family and friends didn’t talk to him anymore, he was completely ignored at home and work, and in his state of confusion he justified everything that was happening to him and kept the illusion of living going, he heard, saw, and felt, as usual, he even saw himself with his former body as if he was still alive, and if he was in pain before his death, he will continue to feel the pain. The director eventually asked the spirit if he was involved in an accident or had been suffering from a serious disease and step by step he led the spirit to the truth and at the right time and in the best way explained the spirit his new situation. Once the spirit realized that he was no longer alive, he would start sobbing and mourning his own death, shortly after that the spirit would announce they are coming for me and after expressing his gratitude said goodbye and left with the angels to his next destination. The director then improvised a short prayer, asked the medium if he/she was ready, and asked to turn on the lights to discover that most attendees were still crying. I am convinced that it is a beautiful experience for the spirit. I left the Center feeling that there was no reason to be afraid of death and that feeling lasted about 10 minutes.

Once we were visited by a drunk spirit who related to the director that he was there because he saw a bunch of people entering the building and figured that there was a party and where there is a party there is booze and since nobody seemed to notice him, he came in. This spirit was very funny and when he realized he was dead, he sobered up and
