About this ebook

Psychic medium Joy Brisbane has come to understand that death is only a flimsy curtain between parallel worlds. Rising out of individual consultations, workshops, and telephone calls, Brisbane now shares her stories as a psychic medium and her experiences speaking with those in the realm of spiritentities that can help us in extraordinary ways.

Brisbane believes death is a leveling experience. Regardless of a persons education, level of society, nationality, or religion, grief knows no boundaries. Behind the veils with which we hide, we are basically the same. Each person feels pain and loss when loved ones pass over, but there is a chance for healing even in the darkest of times.

Spirit Speaks captures the intensity of pain and sorrow, but also the excitement and joy as people make the transition from being in the shadows of their existence to embracing healing and awakening to inner beauty, strength, and courage. In the spirit world, our loved ones and guides have an abundance of love to give. Its time to let them in.

    FOREWORD

I’ve been repeatedly amazed and awestruck by the many demonstrations I’ve witnessed of how our deceased loved ones come through and communicate with us, letting us know that they are doing quite well in spirit world. To receive these communications offers comfort and reassurance for the living and typically helps the recipient to heal from the loss. The spirits of our deceased loved ones will make themselves known to us in different ways. Sometimes they speak to us as a voice in our inner ear, leave signs that give evidence of their presence, show up vividly in a dream, or communicate though an intermediary, such as a medium.

My older brother Wally died several years ago, and there have been occasions when he has made contact with me. One of the ways Wally let me know he was around was by the faint but noticeable odour of cigarette smoke when there was none in the third-dimensional reality. There weren’t any other indications that his spirit was nearby other than this, yet I could also sense his presence, and it would bring a smile to my face.

He was quite a gambler and actually did quite well from time to time, playing the tables in Vegas. When he won, his wife would take the winnings and stash them in their hotel room because inevitably, he would lose. But she would refuse to disclose the whereabouts of the winnings.

I also gamble on occasion—mainly blackjack and craps—but play conservatively, always holding to my preset limits. One time I was playing blackjack, knowing that if I lost what I had set as my limit, I would walk away, and if I won a certain amount I would walk away. I started with a $5 bet, and the first two hands went in my favour. About then I felt my brother’s presence and heard him from then on give me instructions.

It seems I couldn’t lose. When he told me to take another card, I would, and it would beat the dealer’s cards. When he told me to fold, I did, and the dealer would inevitably have a winning hand. After playing for about a half hour, I heard him say, Walk away. So I did.

I counted my winnings, and it came to $2,400! And I started with a $10 limit. Then, as befitting my brother, I heard him say, Okay, you have to do two things now. First, contact my youngest son, and tell him I love him. Second, you have to give away the winnings to a deserving charitable organization. So the fine print came after I’d signed the contract. Just like my brother to organize it this way.

Regardless, I did convey the message to his son and a couple days later wrote checks for the total to two organizations that I favour.

This book contains a number of such stories. Through her work as a psychic and medium, Joy Brisbane details how she came to understand and utilize her gifts to relieve the suffering of so many. She knew since age seven that she could talk with the dead, though, as she states, "How can anyone talk with the dead? They are still very much alive, or I wouldn’t be talking to them. Death is just a curtain from one form of life to another form of life. When we walk through that curtain, we leave behind a physical body that no longer serves, but the real us—the mind, emotions, and soul that create our true essence—goes on living."

It is through this curtain or veil that the dead seek to make themselves known. Her understanding and empathy for those who have sought her help are rooted in her own grief from losing her husband, detailed in her book When Do the Tears Stop? Years ago, when she did some additional training, she was able to confidently step into her mission as a psychic and medium.

Ms. Brisbane tells tale after tale of those who came to her, looking for solace and hoping to receive messages from the lost loved ones. She writes in clear and simple language of the grief and the hope that many of these people felt and how, after a session with her, they would typically find tremendous relief from the pain of their loss.

Through these very captivating stories you will find yourself shedding any doubt that such phenomena exist. You’ll find yourself thinking about death and the afterlife in a different way, or else confirming what you’ve already suspected: that there is in fact life after death, that death is merely the next step in one’s personal evolvement. Lastly, if you have lost a loved one, you can rest assured that he or she is doing well, and if you ask, you’ll likely get a communication from them in some way that will confirm their well-being in the spirit world.

    INTRODUCTION

My work as a psychic medium has brought me into contact with a large range of people from all walks of life and a wide range of ages and social backgrounds. I have come to understand that death is a levelling experience, regardless of

    • what education a person has,

    • what level of society a person comes from,

    • what their nationality is, and

    • what their religious beliefs may be.

Death and grief know no boundaries. Behind our veils that hide who we are, we are basically the same. Each one feels pain and loss when loved ones pass over. Grief and death bring people back to the basic level playing field.

One of the greatest joys for me, working in this field, is to see someone come into my room stressed and tearful and to see the individual leave, smiling and at peace.

Death often brings with it unresolved issues between family members or friends. It is part of my work to help resolve such issues by using my training in counselling and combining that training with my gifts as a psychic medium (the ability to talk to those in spirit). Sometimes what is required is to help clients dissolve feelings of guilt and anger, bringing peace of mind. For those who are sceptical about the afterlife, it can also bring peace of mind to know that the spirit of their loved ones live on, and the knowledge that, when they too pass over, they will go on living. It often creates a greater sense of purpose in their lives.

I also include in these case studies contacts that have been made with people who are living. The first time this happened, I presumed the man I was talking to had died. Later in the consultation I found out he was still very much alive.

In my experience, the soul knows no boundaries. When we are asleep, our souls have the ability to leave the body and visit our loved ones. The soul can also travel to other places either here on earth or to other realms. This ability of the soul to leave the body is known as astral travelling. The astral plane is a band of energy around the earth that reaches from earth’s surface into outer space.

I can also open my mind to be a channel for animals, both living and dead, to come through to their owners with very powerful messages. The most common animals with which I communicate are cats, dogs, and horses. I have also had some amazing experiences with wild animals. I touch on three of those experiences in this book.

I have known since I was a child of seven that I could talk to the dead. I just love that saying, talk to the dead. How can anyone talk to the dead? They are still very much alive, or I wouldn’t be talking to them. Death is just a curtain between one form of life and another form of life. When we walk through that curtain, we leave behind a physical body that no longer serves us, but the real us—the mind, emotions, and soul that create our true essence—goes on living.

In sharing the following case studies with you, I hope you gain something from them for yourself. These chapters are individual stories and can be read as such. All names have been changed to allow clients the right to their privacy.

I have briefly shared some of my own journey with grief. I, too, have lost dearly loved ones (both parents, a husband, and a number of lovely friends) through death. My journey with grief as a result of my husband’s death has been told in my previous book, When Do the Tears Stop?

1 What Is a Psychic Medium?

    • There are many ways to describe a psychic medium (the word medium coming from a Latin word meaning middle or intermediate):

    • a person serving as an instrument for the manifestation of another personality or of some supernatural agency

    • a spiritualist medium

In other words, a medium is a go-between, a link between realms, and a messenger.

Every person is born with psychic abilities. We all use our psychic abilities on a daily basis, even when we are unaware that we do. The majority of people do not realise they have psychic abilities, and the majority of those who are aware they have such gifts are content to just let them be. They are conscious of these abilities, but they choose not to actively use them.

There is a rapidly growing number of people who want to know more about such gifts. They are exploring the beauty of their abilities, and they want to actively learn to use them to help their fellow humans. There is no right or wrong to it; it’s just a personal choice!

At a workshop in Melbourne, I heard John Holland, one of America’s great mediums, say, One does not need to be a medium to be psychic, but one has to be psychic to be a medium.

There are six types of psychic ability; five are aligned with our senses:

    • sight (clairvoyance)

    • hearing (clairaudience)

    • smell

    • taste

    • feeling (clairsentience)

The sixth is what the older folk used to call the sixth sense, but these days, it’s more commonly called intuition. In psychic terms, it is known as claircognizance, or clear-knowing.

Ever since I was a child, I have been strong in clairvoyance and clairaudience. I have consciously trained myself in the other four psychic senses to strengthen my ability to use them.

When working as a medium, it is important that the visions and messages that come through are clear and accurate. Anyone who wishes to participate in this work needs to be aware of the responsibility that comes with it. It is vital to make sure what we see and hear is the truth.

Psychic work is not a toy. People’s lives can become more joyful with the help of a psychic. People can heal when these gifts are used responsibly and with the greatest of care. But people’s lives can also be damaged. People can be deeply hurt by someone who gives inaccurate accounts of what he or she is receiving from spirit or are careless in delivering those messages.

When we work as mediums, it is important we come from a place of loving intent. We must work with respect for the client and the realm of spirit. A medium’s desire should always be to help people step into happy and healthy lives. There is no room for ego-tripping (or drug-tripping) as a medium. There is no room for fear. If someone is fearful of his or her psychic ability, it should not be used! Fear is of the ego, and this means a person is coming from a head space and is not truly working as a clean conduit from the soul space. A medium needs to
