INTRODUCTION
A Little About Me
Many different faiths and cultures have various beliefs in life, death, and the afterlife. Growing up in a very non-religious family, I was devoid of any spiritual upbringing or religious beliefs that would allow me to understand the process of death and dying. I distinctly remember having a conversation with my father at a young age discussing death. His belief in death was that you no longer existed after you died. You were nothing more than just a mind created by your body, allowing you to function and live in the physical world. Spirit and God were nowhere to be found. He had no justification for believing in something that he could not see, touch, or hear. Life was life in the physical world and the spiritual world was nothing more than a magical fantasy.
Unlike my father, I always had a strong belief and a sense of knowing that we were not alone in this world. My emotions, experiences, and conscious thoughts were connected to something much larger than anything I could ever imagine. In my youth, my inquisitive nature about God, angels, and the afterlife led me to explore different religions. I can remember around the age of 10 going to church with friends on Sundays to see how they worshiped God. While there, I remember watching the pastors preach their sermons and strange colors would encircle them. I always thought there was something wrong with my eyes. Perhaps my eyes were tired and I was seeing things! No one had ever explained auras and colors to me. A friend brought me to her Christian church where I found myself surrounded by people trying to save my soul. My family always laughed at me for going. They jokingly thought I would grow up to become a nun one day. They laughed when we would drive by a local monastery and would say that was my future home. I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to serving God, but, because of my lack of knowledge and experience in religion, I had no idea what I could do.
Because my family was so closed-minded about faith, I was discreet about other experiences I had, such as conversations with my guides, re-occurring dreams of past lives, animal spirits walking around me, and feelings of being watched all the time. My mom would constantly wave her hand in front of me while I was daydreaming to wake me up from wherever I was. Hello…Earth to Amy
was her favorite expression. Later in life, I learned I was having out-of-body experiences through astral projection.
The media at the time were of little help. During childhood, movies had opened my mind to the possibilities of life after death through depictions of ghosts and hauntings. Though these movies were scary, they were my only source of information about death. Due to my unknown ability, our home was always filled with strange energy. My brother and sisters were seeing apparitions in our house. I was so afraid of seeing a ghost that I remember putting my hands out and closing my eyes while I felt surrounded by this energy. I demanded that even though these spirits may be around me, I had no intention of seeing any of them. The idea of seeing a ghost was terrifying. Although my family members did see some ghosts in our home, they never talked about them and never opened up about anything else they may have experienced. I never had anything to relate my experiences to and had feelings of loneliness throughout my childhood. These voices
or feelings from my guides had always told me to be patient, as I was different and special, that one day I would understand more. They didn’t explain why, but reassured me that everything would work out and be okay. That someday was coming.
Lack of funds for school and influences from my troubled family life compelled my twin brother and I to decide to join the Navy together. We could travel, go to school, meet new people, and get away from our family. Due to a medical issue, my twin brother was denied entry into the military. I, on the other hand, was shipped out the next day to boot camp, not knowing when I was going to see my family again. I was so excited to be on my own!
Four years in the Navy was a life-changing experience. However, I found myself leaving following the birth of my first child to settle down. My husband and I settled in the State of New Hampshire, close to his family. My mother-in-law was so open to the spiritual and psychic world that she made an appointment for me to see an astrologer. This astrologer told me that I was very psychic and would live my life serving others with my psychic abilities. She revealed connections to a past life and that I had come back very quickly to be of service. My next brush with the spirit world would have a profound effect on me.
In the town we lived in, there was a psychic center right downtown. I remember driving by the center and feeling compelled to go inside. This nudge to go into the psychic center continued for about six months until that nudge became more like a slap in the face. I had never felt a connection to this psychic stuff.
To me, a psychic was always pictured as an old gypsy lady with a crystal ball telling you your future. I honestly never imagined that one day I would call myself one. Because the astrology reading had been so interesting before, I decided to visit the psychic center for a reading. The reading again confirmed that I had strong psychic ability and that I needed to start taking classes. During the classes I was introduced to mediumship. I thought, This is so cool.
Not only did our souls continue on after death, but we could actually communicate with spirits who had already died.
Later, while watching a medium convey messages to people, I once again heard those very familiar voices tell me that I too could communicate with spirits. After a time of doubt and denial, I finally opened myself up during mediumship classes to see if in fact I had this ability. I soon learned that communication with spirits varied from one medium to another. Everyone had different abilities and gifts and, if they chose to educate themselves and develop these abilities, they could in fact communicate with spirits. While developing my abilities, my teachers and I quickly learned that, in fact, heavy spirit energy was attracted to me. Whenever I opened up to communicate with spirits, heavy, intense spirit energy would come through and quickly surround me. Everyone always told me that I needed to stay away from this energy, as it was negative and would only harm me. So of course, I pushed it away.
During the next few years, this heavy energy would become more intense and would come around more often. Confused about the experience, I meditated with my guides for more information. My guides told me that I was a different kind of medium and that these energies were looking for help. They explained that these spirits needed help and guidance to find their way to the other side. My guides explained rescue mediumship to me and that I was to study and excel in this type of work. Spirits knew I was a rescue medium before I did. For the longest time, I researched whatever I could about earthbound spirits and rescue mediumship, though there was very little to reference.
Finally, during the course of the 14 years following my introduction to mediumship, I developed my own mediumship, psychic, and healing abilities. During this process, I had several negative experiences with spirits as well as positive ones, some of which I describe in this book. All of the experiences were to shape who I would become. Through the help from my guides, angels, and animal spirits, I learned how to develop my unique ability to aid those who were in need of help. I now devote my time to helping spirits cross over and educating people about spirit rescue.
