A Rising Sunset - Immanuel Adewumi
Echoes of Thunder
by Adedewe Olufemi Adewumi
Thunder
Booming in Liberia
It drowned the screams of the children
The helpless men and women
Yesterday, I heard the crack of thunder
It echoed in Somalia
I saw many young men, dead
Forever in the dust they made their bed
Tonight, as I write
I hear the rumbling of thunder
Rolling in Rwanda
It is a voice of confusion
And unnecessary destruction
Still, I hear the voice of thunder
And it is getting louder
I hope I will not wake up tomorrow
To hear it resounding
In Nigeria
Love for Life
by Adedewe Olufemi Adewumi
I miss you
I mean in my arms
To close my eyes
And rest in clouds of bliss
I want you
To look into your eyes
And come into your world
Losing me in passionate embrace
I love you
To have and to own
To give you my own
For now, for ever
My Love for life
Sunset In The Sky
By Adedewe Olufemi Adewumi
Sunset in the sky
And forth to my rest
I go by and by.
I rose with the sun
And went to shine
I worked from the morn.
The gold is mine
Labour, Success, Fun!.
Yes, that is fine.
Hey!, put the kettle on,
I sleep at nine.
Dancing on Coals of Fire
by Adedewe Olufemi Adewumi
The rhythm is steady; the constant beating of the heart.
The theatre is empty; save for the solitary dancer.
Dancing alone in the middle of the night,
dancing alone in the fading moonlight.
Waving my arms in rapturous delight.
Planting again the steps of history:
History has come; History has gone;
History will come again.
An endless cycle of sorrow and pain,
accentuated with seasons of love and blissful rain.
A woman in pains, writhing and twisting in
the throes of childbirth; moving in time to
The beat of agony; gives birth to a baby boy,
A boundless joy. Agony is the mother of joy.
Agony gives birth to joy. So joy is born,
But the dance goes on.
Drums! Beating in the distance. Drums! Beating in the night
Drums! Beating my heart. Forcing
