*This book is dedicated to James Douglas Morrison, who played the part of the muse in my writings.
1999
*Not every poem included in this book is dated in chronological order. This is not an oversight on my part. Rather, I have made changes and substitutions over the years.
-J.L.S.
I see you in a silhouette below,
And I wonder how you came to the earth.
A stranger always said that you would
Brighten up my day, and a stranger
Always said that I can see my past.
Time is irrelevant in a manner of thinking.
I know my day must be coming up soon.
All I ask for is the wonder of a little
Sanctuary; all I ask for is a place
Of which to call my own.
In this silly world; I will roam to see you
Standing underneath my feet.

Before you slip into the other world,
I have a few things that I’d like to say.
Is it the right time of day?
Just to let you know I have no time to breathe—
Bereave for the deceased.
I long to know how you feel, and I long
To search for the truth.
Who is it that has done all these bad deeds
To me; whom should I expel from my existence?
I know you’re there, so come out and fight!
Don’t try to hide all your lies from me!
I can see right through to the other side of
Your mind, and I’ve left you far behind.
I’ve done a little traveling in my time,
For I’m more cultured than the average person
May think.
Why even bother with my precious time?
You know how people like you make me feel.

Blue is the name that I call the sacred rose—
The rose which blooms inside my garden.
I shall build a shrine and call it by its name,
For it would be just the same.
Oh, how I love you, my beautiful, sacred rose.
Let me take you, in my mind, to a land very
Far away.
Do not have fear because I’ll hold you so dear,
And the insects won’t even come near!
My rose, my love, would not smell as sweet
If it was true, one day, that you admitted defeat.

No more time for fun and games;
You have me in a rage.
No more time for you because I’m
About to blow off your head; as if you
Ever listened to a word I said!
You say it’s wise if I try to compromise,
But you’re not willing to put up your
End of the deal, and I’m not about to be healed.
Disrespect is the only thing you’ve ever
Given me!
Why should I have to listen to the likes
Of you when all I’m going to receive
Is another reason for why I shouldn’t leave?
I’m really getting irate, so you’d best take
Leave of me!
Even though I seemed to have cooled
Down a little, my mind is still very disturbed.
I hope, one day, when I leave this place that
You will get what you deserve!

All I ever see around here are the
Same old subjects and the same old fools.
I’m tired of these dirty fiends trying to decide
For me what I’ll be doing in my leisure time.
Come with me to a land where such a race
Does not exist;
Come with me into the night so that we can
Escape the madness.
I simply hate it when people don’t respect my wishes,
And I don’t know how I can find it in my mind
To forget.
