Through the Fire with a Smile - Marissa Ariana
Better Days
To the eye
you’re all too well
with that smiling,
laughing face.
But oh, if they only knew…
That you’ve seen better days,
when there was so much more
than this
you feel inside right now.
So hold on to that moment
when your heart
danced
and you were
found.
’Cause you’ll see better days,
where there’s so much more
than this
you feel inside right now.
So cling on to that snapshot,
when you’re mind
knew peace
and you buried
yesterday.
But if you can imagine
better days,
I promise
they will come in time to you.
Those quiet places
that you keep
locked away,
better find the key.
You’ll need them to believe:
When you look ahead
to better days,
I promise you things
won’t feel so rough inside.
And if you’ll stand in wonder
at the coldness
that surrounds you,
it will all melt away
into better days.
July Snow
Running late,
truth on my heels.
Scrambling to find
all I leave behind.
The moment has come.
Alone and scared.
Not sure if I’m ready,
my thoughts unsteady.
Thrown into your conscious,
a rude awakening.
Memories erase with time,
not worth a dime.
Yet here you are
standing before me
with that smirk on your face,
stumbling, words all over the place.
I see it all
in front of me now.
Your true colors fly,
leaving nothing to deny.
I’m better off
without you,
that’s for sure,
reality’s no longer a blur.
Facts sink in
as fantasies fade,
phony innocence on display
don’t fool me today.
Now there’s no room
for the games you play.
Good-bye and good riddance,
tomorrow’s a new day.
Sorrow’s Clutch
This darkness
creeps
as dawn breaks in,
settling
in my mind.
Yesterday overcomes me.
Tomorrow’s long ahead,
somewhere I can’t see.
Mistakes
I can’t take back,
words
I couldn’t
