About this ebook

Book 2 Description

Adrian was still getting settled into her routine of shuttling Courtney to school and getting to work on time.  Andrew Cole, and more to the point his assistant Marie, had been more than patient with her as she juggled all of her new priorities.

She had immediately started the habit of packing her own lunch when she packed Courtney’s and she hoped it would save her a noticeable amount of money.  There was a large breakroom on her floor at work, and she was also hoping to meet a few people because the space was usually pretty crowded between 11:30 and 1:30.

Marie was very kind as she passed off the information she had regarding the upcoming foundation luncheon, as well as details about other past events.  Adrian was grateful that Marie seemed to be on her side and did not feel a sense of competition with her.  She had been worried when she first learned that Marie used to handle the events, but the older woman seemed happy to have the help.

Book 3 Description

There are consequences to sleeping with your gorgeous billionaire boss and Adrian realized that little fact by Tuesday morning.  She had fled his penthouse apartment that morning after leaving a cowardly note behind.

She was grateful that Courtney was still with her estranged father when she got home.  Acting like everything was normal would not have been possible.  Then again, if Michael had not shown up at the office ranting and raving, and Courtney had been staying with her that week, going to dinner and then going home with Andrew would not have happened.

It was such a tangled web that Adrian’s head throbbed.  Or that could have been the wine from dinner.  Either way, she immediately started a pot of coffee and as it brewed, she tossed her grey suit into the corner of her room and slid into her yoga pants with a heavy sigh.

    The Steps in Between

Chapter One: On the Right Foot?

Within the first few days, Adrian had emailed all of the primary contacts to introduce herself and she had received almost instant responses.  Most of them seemed very happy to virtually meet her and were anxious to set up face-to-face meetings regarding the event.

One afternoon, Adrian found herself wondering whether she needed to schedule these during the evening hours or whether she could meet everyone during the day.  She walked over to Marie’s desk to ask and found Andrew standing there chatting with her.

He flashed his bright smile at her, and her knees felt weak as she looked at his dark hair and bright blue eyes.  He had removed his suit jacket and even rolled up his shirtsleeves.  As she approached the pair, she found herself distracted by his strong forearms as they fidgeted with a small red stress ball.

H-H-Hello, she greeted them when she arrived.

Hello there, he rumbled in his deep voice.

I-I-I was just wondering, I’ve been introducing myself to the contacts for the event, and some of them would like to meet me in person.  Would it be okay to arrange those meetings during regular office hours?  Unless you need me here during the day, I’m sure I can make arrangements for evening meetings.

Andrew chuckled, It’s quite alright to do them during the day.  That’s your job after all, to meet with these people and create this event.

Oh, okay, thank you so much.  I really appreciate it.

He rested his hand warmly on her shoulder, Certainly.

Her skin tingled where he had touched her and she hurried back to her office before her face gave anything away.

Marie headed out of the office around five o’clock.  As soon as Adrian heard the elevator door close, she jumped at the sound of Andrew clearing his throat in her doorway.

    Yes sir?

Ok, first of all, you’re going to have to cut out that sir business.  There is a place and time, but we’ll get to that at a later date.

Her brows knitted in confusion but she nodded anyway.

I was wondering, he continued, would you be interested in grabbing dinner?  We can have something delivered if you don’t want to go somewhere.

Oh, um, certainly.  I just have to make a phone call, okay?

She was hesitant to spend quality time alone with him, but since it was barely her first week on the job, and he both owned the company and ran the foundation, she did not feel like she was in a position to really decline.

He stepped out of her office and she quickly rang Susan.

Can you please take Courtney home with you after Girl Scouts?  I have to stay late at work to get up to speed.  I’m so sorry, she rambled.

Oh honey, it’s quite alright.  I have some pizza in the freezer that I can heat right up.  You just take all the time you need.

Oh thank you.  If I ever get my feet under me again, I’ll owe you a cruise or something!

Susan laughed as she hung up, and Adrian wondered how she had gotten so lucky to have found a friend like her.  She took a deep breath and headed over to Andrew’s office.

His office suite occupied about half of the entire sixtieth floor and she had yet to peek inside.  When she did, that deep breath she had taken escaped right back out.  He had stepped away and in his absence, she stepped inside to gape at the furnishings.

It was enormous.  The mahogany desk spanned several feet and was backed by an entire wall of glass that overlooked the city.  To one side of the desk was a small sitting area complete with a rich leather couch and a coffee table that perfectly matched the desk.  To the other side was a small conference table that, of course, matched the other wood pieces.  The leather chair behind the desk and the conference table chairs all matched the couch.  It was exquisite.  The walls had mostly scenic photographs of huge mountain ranges, but there were also several that had extreme close-ups of flowers.  It was an interesting contrast.  She did notice a nondescript door in the back corner and assumed it was simply a coat closet or something.

    Taking a good peek?

His deep voice startled her and she whirled around on her heels, stumbling straight into the muscular chest of her new boss.

Easy there, he laughed, you’ll end up suing me for worker’s comp.

She blushed and looked down at the floor, I’m so sorry.  I was just looking around and didn’t think I’d get caught.

It’s quite alright.  I paid a lot of money to furnish the place, so I may as well show it off.

She nodded as his large hand gripped her shoulder firmly, and helped upright her.

"I had Marie order up dinner before she left; I hope that’s okay.
