About this ebook

Book 2 Description

Mia faces her fears and attends her college reunion, hoping to see her ex-lover turned billionaire doctor, Charles.

As the two of them fall into each other’s arms, Mia realizes that they might be too different for the two of them to truly make things work in this day and age. Fear sends Mia flying away, refusing to walk down that path.

But Charles isn’t so eager to give Mia up. Using his never-ending means, he finds her and attempts to rekindle what they had. But Charles has changed since college. His billions have made him less inclined to reveal what makes him click and he is scared to let Mia in.

Mia finds herself unsure if she should go after Charles and win his heart or let him go and save herself the possible heartache. As Charles sends a huge favor her way, Mia cannot help but wonder if he feels the same way about her and is simply hiding it.

Torn between fear and going for it, Mia must navigate her new world.

    Chapter One – Stepping Out

Mia tried to calm her nerves. She looked in the mirror in her rental car and ran her fingers through her hair. She had tried to make her hairstyle look sexy casual but was afraid it looked as if she had actually spent hours on it.

She couldn’t help but be nervous. In less than a minute she was going to be walking into her college reunion. Anyone who graduated with a degree during her year was going to be there. That included Charles, her first true love, who had left her when he went to study abroad and study medicine.

The past few weeks leading up to the reunion had been busy. Mia had wanted to look her best even while she was trying to finish up her divorce from her ex-husband, Alex. She wanted to be a good mother to her son, Jacob. She wanted to get her apartment in order even though it was small.

Most of all, Mia wanted to curb her shopping addiction. Her earlier promise to herself never to buy something again had been broken three days after it was made. She had bought more than she needed to buy as usual.

She sold what she could online with still at of things left to sell. She had put what she had made towards her credit card debt. But it still wasn’t enough. In fact it had barely made a dent in what Mia owed.

It was clear that her desire to purchase things in the dead of night would need some sort of therapy. In fact, Mia had been looking up things online about shopping addiction. Everyone suggested counseling. But Mia couldn’t afford something like that right now.

If she thought about it for too long, Mia felt stuck. It was as if she had let her urge to purchase things send her into a deep hole that she couldn’t seem to dig out of. How was she going to deal with her debt and her issues if she didn’t have any money to get herself out of this hole?

Mia’s alarm on her phone went off which jolted her back to the present day. She had set the alarm in case she was running late in getting ready. She hadn’t ended up needing it. She had been too nervous and had gotten ready early instead.

I’m going to see Charles, Mia thought dizzily. She was still nervous but she took a deep breath and stepped out of the car.

    ***

Mia nodded again to what the woman in front of her was talking about but she had lost interest about fifteen minutes ago. Apparently the woman remembered Mia from college but Mia couldn’t remember her at all. The woman, whose name was Maureen or something like that, had been talking to her non-stop about her teacup collection which she had been collecting since graduating college.

Wow, really? Mia said when she realized Maureen was waiting for a reaction.

Maureen nodded and went on in her high pitched voice. Mia still couldn’t recall where in the world this chick had come from. Was she on her dorm floor or something? A class, perhaps? Too much time had passed for Mia to ask now where she knew her from.

As Maureen went into detail about her newest teacup, Mia cast a glance around the large meeting room. It had been decorated to look like an old ballroom, giving off old glamor. Mia had been impressed by how much work had gone into it. She had been picturing a rundown meeting hall in the hotel.

The room was packed. That was the other thing that surprised Mia. She hadn’t been expecting so many people to show up. Already she had run into a ton of people she remembered, all pausing to ask her questions and to catch up. Mia had sworn she had seen Charles in this corner but ended up trapped by Maureen.

Mia tried to keep her doubts in line when it came to Charles being here. She was trying not to convince herself that Charles was avoiding her.

    So, what do you collect?

Mia realized it was Maureen who was asking her this. For a spilt second, Mia thought about telling her she collected junk that she bought online in the middle of the night but stopped herself just in time.

But her answer was cut off by someone speaking for her.

I seem to remember Mia liked collecting shoes back in college.

The voice. It struck a nerve and sent goose bumps popping up along her skin. The reaction was instant. Mia knew exactly who would be standing behind her when she turned around. She took a deep breath and turned around.

    There he was.

Charles stood in front of her. Even though so much time had passed between them, he looked almost unchanged. His face was more defined. The jawline that Mia had loved in college was more pronounced than ever. His hair was lighter yet still slightly messy. She had always joked that no matter what he did to his hair it always remained the same. There were subtle changes. He seemed to be slightly more imposing than Mia recalled. She supposed it could be because she was so nervous to see him again.

I still do. She said, managing to find her voice as their eyes locked.

Charles smiled and Mia could feel her heart begin to beat quickly. Charles glanced over at Maureen.

Do you mind if I steal her for a moment? Thank you so much.

Maureen opened her mouth, as if she was going to protest but Mia didn’t let her get a word in. Quickly she nodded and wrapped her hand around his arm as Charles wheeled her away from Maureen.

Thank you so much. Mia mumbled, making sure Maureen couldn’t hear her.

No problem. When I saw you trapped listening to her, I knew I needed to step in and save you. What in the world were you doing talking to Maureen of all people? Charles whispered back.

Mia detected a hint of an accent in his voice. She chalked it
