THE STORY SO FAR: Andrea is the new girl at university in the 1970s, and arrives in the midst of strikes and power cuts. She hears a student has died, but no one seems overly concerned. She’s followed home one night by Keith, a fellow student. Keith’s mum, the cleaner, had asked him to keep an eye on Andrea. Keith is dating a student called Amy, and Amy’s friends think Andrea has her sights set on Keith. One evening, Andrea is paid a visit by Keith, who confides in her that Amy has been acting strangely. Her work has suffered but now her marks are picking up again. Later, Andrea has a headache and goes to Elaine for a painkiller. In Elaine’s room, Andrea notices she is writing a second-year essay – but Elaine is doing a PhD. The following evening, Andrea goes to Amy’s room to put her straight about not wanting to steal her man. But she finds Amy asleep – with the same essay on her desk that Elaine had been writing…
