About this ebook

Book Two: Chasing Love
When Claire Mather agrees to be her best friend Elle’s bridesmaid, she inadvertently agrees to walk down the aisle with Elle’s fiancé’s brother, Jonathan Charmant. Jonathan doesn’t believe in love, and finds all the comfort and fulfillment he needs in the newest technology and in the many women who throw themselves at him. But once Claire and Jon meet at the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding, all the pre-conceived ideas they had fly out the window. Jon cannot understand why Claire wants nothing to do with him, and he goes on a mission to win her affections enough to bed her, but when the challenge proves too much, and growing feelings start to complicate his plan, Jon doesn’t know if his way of life is really as fulfilling any longer. While Claire battles the desire to learn from her mistake in the past when it comes to Mr. Charmant, and not give him the option of breaking her heart again, Claire finds the many masks he wears unappealing, and Jon, in a bid to change her opinion of him, lets the mask slip and offers her the chance to view the man he keeps from the world. Claire still remains distrustful, but will the real Jon, not the playboy or the technology guru, break through her icy walls enough that they both may find something they never quite expected?

    Chapter One

Jonathan Charmant was not usually a man who sped down the highway at top speeds, fixing his mussed sandy blonde hair, the setting sun catching the few strands of honey blonde and unsettling grey streaks that hid in the mess of his flowing curls. But if the time that flashed on the dash of his red apple corvette was correct, he would have to admit that he was late. Not just any kind of late, either, not the kind that you could brush off and pretend that you were there the whole time and no one would be the wiser: no, his absence would have already been noted and commented on if his older brother Andrew had his way. His delayed appearance would only serve to purse his mother’s lips to a cartoonish line and liven up his brother Andrew’s usually pale complexion. Being on time mattered a lot to his mother and brother, but the rest of his family not so much; it was just another way Andrew was more like their mother in attitude and their father in appearance. Luke, his youngest brother, the one who all this hoopla and driving at law-breaking speeds was for... well, he took after their mother most in appearance, and was more like their father in personality, and here he was the middle child, the one who didn’t seem to take more from one and less from the other. He liked to claim he was the perfect one, an ideal combination, much to his brothers’ chagrin and denial.

The fading rays of the sun glistened off his gold Rolex as he weaved his way through traffic, with one eye on the road, his ears filled with the ticking of the clock as the minutes rolled by, and the hand not currently attached to the steering wheel eagerly trying to make himself as presentable as possible. Seeing the sign for exit 29, he quickly shot across three lanes, lest he miss the exit, uncaring for the blaring of horns or the minivan he was dangerously close to clipping. Stupid, stupid, man. I should have left hours ago! Jon kept going through the past few hours in his head. His buzz was slowly resurfacing, and he could feel the effects of the alcohol he had been ingesting, and the warm feeling that had accompanied a few shots of Jack was doused by the reality of how late he was for Luke’s rehearsal dinner. He was the best man, well, one of them, and though Luke was against him throwing a bachelor party filled with the usual trappings of strippers and bad decisions, he had no real other responsibility as a best man than to show up and not sleep with too many of the bridesmaids, not that that would be a problem seeing as it was only Elle’s one friend from her cleaning days and seeing as she had no more friends, beyond Andrew’s assistant Julia, who were assisting her down the aisle. But he was failing hard right now at the showing up part of his best man duties, even though, as he zoomed through residential neighborhoods with towering gaudy McMansions and overpriced eyesores, Jon felt like he could make a case that it was something business related that had kept him detained. He’d been meeting with the French model that was to be the face of their new smart watch ad campaign, even though it wasn’t usually his division to deal so personally in, as he usually
