Introduction
The inspiration to write this e-book originally came from an interest in wellness, and how by changing a number of small things we can make large differences to our own well-being and happiness.
Through personal experience, my research expanded to include business productivity and the startling way we operate our workplaces. Rather than being an extension of a healthy, productive life, they are often the exact opposites – breeding grounds for stress, ill health, and poor performance.
Whilst making change in our personal lives is the easiest thing to achieve, our work lives are in many ways dictated for us.
We have little choice but to brave the rush hour traffic or commuter chaos if we want to earn a living. At the workplace, again we have to make the best of what is provided to us – 'our tools' to complete the job well.
The problem is that often, these tools are totally inadequate.
In fact, they actually sometimes sabotage us, making it harder to do our jobs and contributing to lowered productivity.
From stuffy, airless offices to poorly maintained heating systems,to junk food-filled canteens, the vast majority of issues are accepted as the 'way things are', and ignored as a result. Simple hassles and irritants that could easily be resolved are forgotten about.
Yet we have a responsibility to our employees and our business to improve things :
The average workplace has a number of problems that can be quickly and easily remedied in a low cost manner.
The aim of this book is to discuss common business performance disruptors, and offer simple solutions to fixing them.
By following all the suggestions in this book you will reinvigorate your workforce, increase job satisfaction, enhance creativity, and massively improve your overall productivity.
A nice side effect is that your company will also have reduced absenteeism and less long term sick leave.
Whether you are a small or large business, a start-up or well established company, I hope and believe the information included in this book will prove helpful.
If you are truly serious about maximising your workplace performance, then I would encourage you to read every chapter with a pen in hand. Making notes as you progress will give you a helpful and strategic list for improvement.
This book contains only information you need to know. It will take no more than a couple of hours to read. There are no fluff or fillers. It is purely a short, science based book,
