    Introduction

The Apostles, Paul and apparently all of the churches established by them knew about God’s great plan for life. This first book will tell you where the Plan is located in the Bible and what it’s all about. It will reveal the Bible’s astounding key to understanding Christ, and provide a Biblical map to guide your own development from spiritual childhood to maturity.

    The First Act

What is the very first thing God did, as recorded in the Bible? Sounds like an easy question to answer. Many people would turn to the first page of the Bible to find out (Genesis 1:1). But creating the heavens is actually the second thing God did, because the first thing He did took place before the earth and the heavens were created. So, the question becomes, what did God do before the beginning? It is very important to know this, so important you would think God would have placed the answer in the very front of the Bible. Can you explain this mystery? Scientists have invented some wonderfully fanciful scenarios to explain what happened before the universe existed. Of course, they exclude God from their calculations thereby introducing a fatal flaw that totally corrupts their conclusions. Don’t make the same mistake. Don’t try to exclude God from the universe or from life, or you will find yourself unable to fully comprehend the rich depth of the Biblical truth in what you are about to read.

The intriguing story of what happened before the beginning of the universe is located in Proverbs chapter eight. There it tells that God first brought forth something he called wisdom. It is important that you read all of Proverbs 8 before you continue. Now, since you have just read Proverbs 8 you know that having wisdom will make you rich. You also see that wisdom is worth more than gold or silver. Understanding this you realize the riches it gives you can not be gold or silver, or even fine rubies, since they haven’t enough value. Proverbs is actually talking about spiritual value that exceeds anything in this world. So, wisdom is very important. In fact, it is the key to everything God has done, is doing, and will do. This is why the Bible stresses the importance of obtaining wisdom. Unfortunately too many seek it in the wrong places, such as in eastern religions, or in a university. It can’t be found in either place, because wisdom cannot be acquired by study or religious effort. True wisdom comes from God alone.

The wisdom in Proverbs 8 is unique because it displays some characteristics usually attributed to the divine God, such as, He who finds me finds life. This is an astounding claim. It is obvious that wisdom has a unique intimacy with God and his life-giving essence. That statement reveals a picture of the importance of this unique spiritual wisdom. It is more than a concept, and it does not fit the common definition of wisdom, which is the ability to judge correctly what is true, or what is the best course of action. To clarify God’s wisdom I will compare God to an owner of a vacant lot. The very first thing an owner that wants to build a house does is to capture the concept for the house on paper in the form of blueprints. Blueprints guide the construction in all phases all the way through to completion. Likewise the mysterious wisdom which God established before he created anything is actually his blueprints, his master plan for life, the perfect course of action to accomplish his purpose. Proverbs 8 said, I was set up from everlasting, at the first, before the beginning of the earth … when [God] established the heavens, I was there … when he assigned to the sea its limit … I was beside him like a master plan and I was daily his delight… [loved as an anticipation of the completion]; for by this plan God was establishing life on earth, and the path to life with himself forever.

Before God created anything, he made the plan for everything, from photons to man to the universe. It was/is the Plan for Life so everything in it was/is designed to be good, as the God of Life is good. God created all the ingredients for life in the universe, light, water, rich soil, and gravity to hold everything together for man. It is amazing to think that God left nothing to chance, that God designed all the billions of stars, and actually gave names to each of them (Psalms 147:4), even as he designed each individual person, in flesh and spirit. God saw the end before the beginning. He made the Plan to deal with human reality so the end would result in life with him forever. The Plan for Life is not the way for you to get to God, but God’s way to bring you to him, because you cannot get there without him doing everything for you. Now reread Proverbs Chapter 8 and substitute in your mind the words Plan for Life for the word wisdom. You will find it makes much more sense, for it accounts for the way the word wisdom is used here. For example it says in Proverbs 8:35, He who finds me finds life. This verse now can be seen as pivotal to the whole chapter on the wisdom of God. It would read, He who finds the Plan for Life finds life and receives favor from the Lord, [because life is God’s will for everyone]; but he who rejects the Plan for Life injures himself [to death]; all who hate God’s design as manifest in the Plan for Life love death. This is a fact, not a philosophical statement, as you shall see in a later chapter.

So, where in the Bible is this Plan for Life written? The prophet Micah mentioned it (4:12). The disciples knew about it (Acts 4:29). The Apostle Paul wrote about it in Ephesians 1:11. It is actually hidden in plain sight; the outline for it is at the front of the Bible, right where you would expect God to put it. It is the whole first chapter of Genesis. God gave us the outline of the Plan as the very first words recorded that we would know that life with him was and is the goal of creation. God tells everyone at the front of the Bible what he has been doing, is doing, and is going to do so there would be no confusion concerning who is God and who is to receive glory. Creation belongs to the God of the Bible, not to our own cleverness, other so-called gods, evolution, Mother Nature, science, or to a mathematical construct enabling a gravitational interaction between 5th dimensional membranes beyond the space-time continuum.

God is in full charge. Nothing has been left unaccounted for, or for someone else to complete for him. The Plan for Life was completed in full detail in heaven before the world was created as Proverbs 8 reveals. It is spiritual and not subject to man’s whims. A trustworthy God made it, therefore life is assured, because the plan will never be changed. The Plan in each of its phases is good, as it says repeatedly in Genesis 1. It will achieve its designed grand purpose no matter what men or angels do or don’t do. Now read the outline for the Plan for Life in Genesis 1 to Genesis 2:3.

Genesis chapter one is an outline with few details (like an executive summary). It is divided into seven parts called days (in English). Day is translated from the Hebrew word Yom. Hebrew is the language in which Genesis was written. The word Yom is translated as day, but it also means the time in which a thing takes place (See Note #1). The latter meaning is a more fitting definition, and points to a more suitable translation (in this instance) for the spiritual concept depicted by the word yom, and that is the English word ‘phase’.

The first chapter of Genesis lays out the plan for the orderly unfolding of God’s creation. These days are not 24-hour human days. Keep in mind that the Plan is spiritual and an accomplished fact in heaven. There are no 24-hour days in heaven, since there is no time. Time only has meaning in a system that has limits, such as where sin/death reigns. Therefore time as a limiting factor is not a feature of the Plan for Life. Thus, there are seven phases of development, and they provide the Plan’s structure.

Each phase begins with darkness, (evening) which is followed by light (morning). This is a unique pattern in God’s Plan. All seven phases of creation conform to it. Each successive phase takes a piece of what was already done and further refines it. Phase one, God created the universe, possibly just a dot of space/matter/time, a little like a fertilized egg which he energized so it explosively expanded according to the rules he had defined for the universe. (See Note #2) This first part of creation was done in darkness, then when the universe had expanded through the evening and matter had coalesced to a density set by the Plan, God said, Let there be light. and he ignited the stellar engines. This is the start of the morning of phase one. "… and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light ‘day,’ and the darkness he called ‘night.’ And there was evening, and there was morning the first yom [which you now know should be translated as the first phase]" (Genesis 1:3-5).

Now skip to the sixth phase when man was created. In the Plan he was the last of God’s creations, but he was the only one in the Plan for Life destined to be created in the image of God. He was also to be set above all the other creatures. His creation (as you shall see) coincides with the beginning of the morning of the sixth phase. God saw in the Plan that this was good. The seventh phase was for God’s rest. A note of caution to you: the omnipotent creator God does not need rest. It is a part of the Plan for Life, meaning it has special application to the created man and woman. The seventh phase is just the finale’ to the creating portion of the Plan. Nothing more would need to be done. The Plan was perfect. And what is more, from the moment of its completion in heaven it was the same as having been accomplished, even though God would take a long time (in our understanding) to implement all the phases (They are still taking place today). As God stated later, ... my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it (Isaiah 55:11). Thus Genesis 1 is God’s wisdom, the Plan for Life, not the history of creation.

    Implementation

Chapter two of Genesis is the beginning of the record of the implementation of the Plan for Life. This is the actual creation. It is also the beginning of the record of man’s departure from the goal of the Plan (life), and of God’s fully anticipated provision in the Plan to enable man to return to the way of life. The account begins with the creation of a man, since Man is the target of the Plan for Life. Now read Genesis 2 starting at verse 4.

Notice that the implementation (chapter 2) seems to contradict the Plan revealed in the first chapter. The Plan has Man, male and female, being created in the sixth phase after the plants (third phase), birds and fish (fifth phase) and animals (beginning of the sixth phase). But the implementation says the first man was created at the beginning of the third phase, when no plant of the field was yet in the earth ... the LORD God formed man out of the dust of the ground (vs. 7). God breathed life into him and then planted a garden for the man and then brought animals to him. This was perplexing to various groups throughout history who sought to reconcile the two chapters by applying their imaginations to interpret God’s word. Be aware that Bible understanding is not a matter for Man’s imagination. You must ask God for answers.

The implementation doesn’t agree with the Plan, because chapter one and chapter two are not speaking about precisely the same thing. The Plan says God created Man male and female in God’s image. Nowhere in chapter two does it say God created Man in God’s image. That is just what people generally infer because the story of the man (called Adam in chapter 3) follows the Plan for Life of chapter 1. What is more, Eve was not created in the image of God, rather she was created in the image of Adam, being bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh. You will clearly see in chapter 3 of Genesis that on the surface Adam has little to do with the goal of life in the Plan. Through his disobedience to God he brought death to all mankind, not life, and became subject to death himself. So condemned Adam and Eve are certainly not in the image of God, and thus do not fulfill the words of the sixth phase of chapter one. Now read chapter 3 of Genesis.

The Plan anticipated the subjugation of mankind to both spiritual and physical death. In chapter one the Plan is revealing a time late in phase six when God will actually create Man, male and female in God’s image. But there was a lot that had to be done before God could implement that phase of the Plan. Man through Adam had committed an offense that resulted in immediate spiritual death and also indebted Man to physical death (each person owes one death - their own). The Plan would have to provide a way to pay that debt to Death. Self-effort and special deeds performed by Man would avail nothing. No armies can prevail over death. No prayers, memorizing scripture, or tears will be enough. No angel or Satan can pay the debt. Only the death of a man can pay the debt for a man. So, the Plan would have to address the problem of death. It would have to reverse what Adam and Eve had done (die, meaning spiritually) by giving Man spiritual life back, and reverse what Cain had done (murder, physically kill) by raising Man from the dead.

So, how does God in his wisdom propose to salvage Man who, because of sin, is destined for eternal spiritual and physical separation from him (essentially two deaths)? The Plan in Genesis chapter 1 does not provide enough detail to answer this question. It is only an outline. To find the answer you have to read more of the Bible. God provides interesting details of his Plan in the lives of certain people in the so-called Old Testament (Adam, Abraham, Joseph, Ruth, Samson, David, etc.) He also adds specific details of certain events in the prophetic books (e.g. Zechariah 11, Psalms 22, Isaiah 54, etc.). The Book of Ruth presents a fine pattern of the Plan including salvation for both Jews and non-Jews.

    Ruth

The Book of Ruth is a love story. It corresponds directly to the Plan for Life, which means that the
