It is a critical condition, says Nawaz. In fact, if I should say that your husband will never be able to lead a normal life with you, I think, I am not wrong on that aspect.

And with those words, all Raziya’s hope comes crashing down. So much for her expecting a miracle out of the medical reports!

Why did she hope so much? What was there to expect actually? If the present reports are something to go by then, from the very first stage, hoping for a miracle was just plain stupid on her part.

Doctor, she says, I am still confused about the reports. At Nawaaz’s raised brow, she clears her statement, I mean, you told me on the phone that, if I bring him to the hospital for a check-up...,

    Which you did not...,

I know, she shakes her head, Just because you told me that you have already done his brain scan long time back, before my marriage. she pauses.

    Sure.

Why did you marry Sheikh Ejaz?

    ****

Raziya has this crazy desire to run from the room and never look back. She has been asking herself this same question from such a long time it is a little wonder that the answer has not knocked
