    Thump of the drums, the loud resonating voice of women clad in black and white and the essence of lighted herbs in the air. The kingdom of Chakra, the far-off desert country situated on the borders of Rajasthan, India, is all prepped up for the grand ritual of deity Ganesha, the elephant lord.

    Greetings to all the high and mighty rulers present here. I, Suhail-ul-Kaid, Sultan of Chakra, prays to the mighty power of the heaven to grant each one of us strength and intelligence to proceed peacefully through this sacred worship ritual of-

    Getting cut off there by the presence of a dark shadowy lady, entirely covered in a soft black veil from head to toe, Sultan bows to the figure and assembly goes silent.

    Watching from the balcony of the ladies section, Dragon priestess Ala-Hada Qashid mumbles a chant and makes the sign of casting off the evil eye with the fingers pointing towards the shadowy figure. Squeezing her hand from the side, Doctor Habib Qashid, straightens his sitting posture and keeps his hand on her noticeable baby bump and joins her in the chant.

    Everywhere in the hall, there is silent chaos, not nearly un-noticed from the eye of Zaid, Sheikh’s Murad bodyguard! Like for example, right next to his seat, Sheikh Kabeer and Habiba too, have made the same symbol, and their mouth is moving.

    It feels, as if, each ruler present in the radius of the shadow is mumbling or chanting something, making that symbol of casting off the evil eye. Alert and aware, with his hand going to the hilt of his sword, Zaid turns his entire focus to the figure standing in the middle of the gathering.

    Big drums in the corner of the hall turn from low to high in their thumping, A hand comes out of that black cloak, lifts the veil from the face and…

    Zaid freezes!
