    Introduction

This book is all about starting a healthy lifestyle through nutrition. Our health hinges on our diet and if we eat junk food then our health will eventually reflect that. There are two distinctive diet plans in this book to fit in with whatever area you may need help. Each plan is different and unique and offers a wide variety of recipes to help achieve one goal between the two, living a healthy lifestyle.

What does eating junk food do to us? If you believe the old saying You are what you eat then you need to assess what you put into your body. This saying is very true, by the way. We can get away with eating nothing but junk food for a while and we may seem healthy enough. But if we continue, it silently works against our body. It encourages the cholesterol levels to rise. It encourages the blood glucose levels to rise. It also encourages the body to build and retain fat. A junk food diet is especially detrimental to our health if we are also sedentary.

What exactly is junk food? Junk food is defined as food that has no or very little nutritional value. Much of it that has any nutritional value is because some vitamins are sprayed onto the food at the manufacturing facility. Junk food is full of processed sugars and refined flours. Because the food has no nutritional value, the body is not receiving the vital nutrients it needs to build a strong immune system. Nor is it receiving enough energy to boost the metabolism. What we get with our health from a junk food diet is a sluggish metabolism and a weakened immune system. What this means to us is we become sicker easier. We also become fat, even obese.

To further break down the detriments of a junk food diet, let's discuss each bad health issue in detail. First, eating a junk food diet puts you at risk for weakening the immune system. Consuming nutrients, vitamins, and minerals strengthen the immune system. The absence of these nutrients will cause the immune system to weaken. A weakened immune system cannot fight off germs, viruses, bacterial infections, and the rigors of stress like a strengthened one can. The immune system needs to be strong in order to fight off free radicals. Free radicals are substances that cause horrible illnesses like cancer, heart disease and other conditions that may have a bleak prognosis. By strengthening the immune system with the proper nutrition from the foods you eat you can strengthen the immune system so it can fight off infections and horrible health conditions.

Without a good metabolism you will never feel like getting up and moving about to get exercise. Eating a junk food diet robs the body of the vital energy it derives from nutritious foods. Regular exercise helps to boost the metabolism and it also helps to strengthen the immune system. The body works that way, as a whole, where all systems need the other in order to function at optimum levels. A junk food junkie that does not exercise just makes their health go downhill faster. If you can exercise, you will speed up the body's reaction to eating the nutritious foods, which will help to strengthen the immune system. In other words, eating a nutritious diet and exercise equals a healthy lifestyle.

If you mess with your immune system and metabolism and continue to eat junk foods it starts to affect other areas of the body. Look at the cholesterol. Cholesterol is necessary to some degree, but if it is not kept under control it develops in abundance in the lining of the arteries. This can lead to heart disease, if the blockages are forming around the heart, or strokes if the blockages are forming around the brain. The body is remarkable though because by eating the right foods it has a better chance at taking care of the cholesterol levels. If a doctor diagnosis you with high cholesterol, chances are they will have you do a lifestyle change first. You will be required to diet by eating healthy nutritious foods such as found in this book and by adding an exercise routine to your weekly regimen.

Blood glucose levels are more apt to fluctuate, as we get older. This is especially true if type 2 diabetes runs in the family. Genetics play a big role in whether or not you will also come down with this condition. The good news is that dieting helps to both prevent it at times and certainly, it treats it. Eating healthy balanced meals like those found in the low carb and the comfort food sections will help the blood glucose levels to be normal.

Let's talk about weight. Eating junk foods will pile on the fat and weight, especially if you are sedentary. This excessive weight is not good for you. The added weight causes a host of issues on their own with your body, aside from the above mentioned health conditions. Excessive weight also puts you at greater risk for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high blood glucose levels. By dropping the weight, you lower your risk for all of these conditions. Excessive weight is also rough on the bones and joints and can aggravate arthritis and even bone loss conditions. Drop the weight through eating a healthy diet like the low carb diet and keep the weight off by eating a diet like the comfort food diet.

Before starting any new diet plan it is wise to see your health care provider for a good yearly physical. Find out where you are with your cholesterol and blood pressure. Find out if you have blood glucose issues. Assess your weight. Discuss the diets with your health care provider and discuss any medications you are taking. Ask if you can go off medications if you change your lifestyle and make nutrition your top concern. The diets in this book can help with this.

    Section 1: Low Carb Diet

Low calorie diet is a general phrase that can have different meanings. Anyone can eat smaller portions of the same foods they are already consuming, but this doesn't adequately justify a low calorie diet. What you eat makes a huge difference in getting the most out of any type of diet. Advertising trends can misrepresent the true meaning of a low calorie diet, while staying within certain truthful perimeters. This book is designed to bring focus on true low calorie diets, that introduce you to a new way of life. Being stronger, healthier and having more energy, is the goal of a successful low calorie diet.

There will be misconceptions addressed, as you read through the chapters. Facts about preservatives, sugar, grains and drinks, will awaken your thoughts about what you are feeding yourself, and your family. The truth is, a low calorie diet is not just for losing weight, but learning how all foods have a direct effect on your body. Just as you know that cigarettes and large amounts
