Quite often it will be the trainee who carries out the shiatsu for the client. Usually they'll be the one who washes the hair and prepares the client for the hairdresser (not always the case but pretty frequently). They may only have 5 minutes at the backwash for a shampoo but longer techniques can be incorporated within a hair conditioning treatment service which typically could be 20-30 minutes... and will be charged for differently. As a stylist the times I have used shiatsu is after the consultation and before the client is taken to the basin by the trainee.
Incorporating just one or two of the Shiatsu techniques can yield great results, and an invitation to expand your repertoire, not necessarily having to practice the whole sequence (although of course it would be delightful if you did!)
Salons can be hectic environments that would benefit from the calming influence of Shiatsu in action ...but if time is pushed, acknowledging the simplicity of holding, and a few neck points, may create positive stillness.
Some of the suggestions will appeal to you more than others; therefore enjoy the ones that speak to you: the enjoyment will transmit. And while dealing with the Client's head and all the busyness that goes with it, keep mindful of your posture, for your own comfort!
INSPIRATION
When TONI&GUY approached Kris Deva North, then Master of the Zen School of Shiatsu, to design a special Shiatsu Massage, Kris cast his mind back to his own Shiatsu training, and a work placement with Daniel Field: whose celebrity clients soon began to enjoy receiving Kris's Head-Neck-Shoulders Shiatsu in the chair, and lovely Face-Shiatsu at the backwash.
TONI&GUY wanted something more than plain head-rub. This handy little manual is the result, a unique treatment to transform your Clients' hairdressing experience, a modern massage based on ancient principles, using Shiatsu pressure points and meridians for relaxation, vitality, and stress relief.
Your hairdressing training in client care already utilizes the sensitivity and skill that is incorporated in the essence of Shiatsu. Adapting those principles you apply the new techniques you are learning now. Shiatsu is a simple manual skill backed up by a comprehensive theory. It's easy to give the massage, and the more you know about it the more you will impress the friends and colleagues you will find
