It seems every book needs a disclaimer these days in case you decide to drive an unlicensed juggernaut through a busy mall without a seatbelt while under the influence just because some nutter suggested it in a book you read when you were in an 'emotionally impressionable' state. So here goes commercial suicide...

I am not promising to reveal any 'secrets of success', (well, except one), the 'key' to eternal life, the 'one trick' of violent weight loss or seven steps to impossibly freakish hair growth. I do not confess to know how to attain success by achieving 'inner peace' or 'becoming one with the cosmos' - although you might just be able to attain nirvana and make some kick-ass cheesy fries by the end. I do not show you how to 'tap', 'mine', 'connect', 'siphon' or 'pilfer' the endless power of the universe to achieve success, wealth and good fortune beyond your wildest dreams because I don't believe a fucking word of it. I do not proclaim to have knowledge from ancient civilizations apparently vastly more intelligent and wiser than ours but strangely unable to sustain their own existence.

Having got that out of the way, this book is largely unfounded opinion like most others, I'm just more honest in acknowledging this. It contains some scientific backup that when examined objectively proves only that I was looking around for evidence that 'proved' or at least seemed to back up my theories and surprise, surprise found it. Actually having now blown my cover, for the most part I dispense with this 'scientific' backup as one man's proof is another man's wolf, Mr Freud.

Anybody mad enough to actually follow any suggestions sensible or otherwise do so at the risk of syphoning all the fucked-up detritus out of their heads and replacing it with some seriously sweet success. If I fail to take my own medicine, I will be held in contempt by Mark, my ludicrously hairy business partner, who has the right to give me a good public kicking. The message in this book is serious, the tone for the most part isn't - don't confuse the two. Most ideas in this book aren't new. View most new ideas with caution - they are usually old ideas dressed up to look like something else, and probably swindles or genuinely new ideas which means they're untested and probably just intelligent swindles - either way, they're trouble. People have been the same for thousands of years and doubtless will be for thousands more. Technology, ways of living, of communicating move on, mankind stays pretty much where it is. That is not a fact, it is an opinion. Most facts are.

Do not use this book as a personal enema or metaphor for redemption.

This book is called The Great Success Swindle.

However it's not a book about 'success' in the accepted way. It's a book about life.
