    Introduction

    Henry James was an American writer, but he spent major part of his life in Britain. He is considered as one of the most prominent writers in American literature. He has his distinct place among the leading figures of 19th century literary realism.

    His novels and short stories are still as much admired as they were when they were published. He is known for his witty remarks and memorable lines in his works. Some of his most effective lines in his stories and novels have become very popular quotations.
