    The Dare

The old rent-a-truck blocked the view of the house on the small side street. The setting sun lit up the trees with hints of red and gold as a tired, middle-aged man closed the back door of the truck with a final slam. The guy looked at a woman with her hands on her hips on the sidewalk.

The man appeared to be in his late 60’s. Snow white hair carefully combed and an untucked flannel shirt over a very large belly. The smiling man held out his hand. I'm Carl. Nice to meet ya'.

I'm Tom. Those are my kids back there. Annie and Tom junior. We call him Tommy. Sandy's my wife. She's in the house.

"Nice to meet you Tom. So, what motivated
