    Over the years that I’ve edited Spaceports & Spidersilk, I’ve noticed that, while I try to draw in stories and poetry that fit seasonal themes, often different issues take on lives of their own, and settle into themes that I may never have intended. In the case of this issue, I see two thematic elements running through many of the tales.

    First, many of the stories and poems in this issue touch on the question of friendship. What makes a good friend? Must your friend look like everyone else’s friend? Should he look like you? Is a real friendship defined by good behaviour, or by shared interests, or simply by
