    A Recipe for Adventure:

    – Take 1 (one) seemingly normal young person.

    – Marinade in a large measure of your choice of boredom, loneliness, wistfulness, tragedy, or a mix of all of the above. (Note: the length and strength of the marinade help determine the intensity of the adventure.)

    – Toss in 1 (one) sudden and unmeasurable splash of the unexpected.

    – Allow to rest only long enough for the young person to develop either a small pinch of hope or a large dash of fear.

    – Toss the mixture swiftly, either within a confined space, or, more commonly, out the front door.

    – Add in companions and/or complications as desired.

    – Watch your adventure unfold.

Warning: end results will vary... but most are definitely worth the effort.

    Sled Kittens

    by Christina Sng

    When summer is over

    And winter arrives,

    Sled kittens are bred

    To protect elvenkind.

    They’re larger than moose

    And fluffier than bears.

    They can pull 200 elves

    On a small wooden sled.

They can run through the night

    While carrying a pack.

    They're trained to battle orcs

    Whenever they’re attacked.

But the rest of the time,

    They are sweet and gentle.

They love a pet and warm mittens

    Just like regular kittens.

About the Poet: Christina Sng is a poet, writer, and occasional toymaker. She loves making up stories and poems for her children. Sometimes even the cat stops by to listen.

    Doggone Dust

    by G.R. LeBlanc

Casey grabbed the broom from the linen closet and dragged it to her bedroom. She hated cleaning, but if she didn’t keep up with her chores she knew that her parents would never agree to let her have a puppy. And she wanted a puppy more than anything.

She had already made her bed and put away all her clothes, books, and stuffed animals. Once the floor was clean, she swept the dust under her bed--just like she had done many times before.

What harm could it do? No one ever looked under there anyway.

Casey propped the broom in the corner, relieved to be done. She looked out her window at the clear night sky, and that’s when she saw it: a shooting star!

    She closed her
