A KING, A QUEEN, AN EX-KING, AND A DEVIOUS PLOT

THE HOW-TO OF ACQUIRING A KINGDOM

Albert and Elena have by now fully assumed their responsibilities as the King and Queen of the Magickals, and they are plunged into a quandary that is as old as time – someone else wants to be King, to take Albert’s place not only in the throne, but in his beautiful wife’s bed.

The evil presence of the coming darkness has finally revealed his face, and he is one of the most powerful warlock that ever lived, as well as an ex-Voodoo King. But he wants more than the measly authority that he used to have. He feels nothing for humans, and wants to conquer the Magickals and exploit their magick to make himself live forever.

But in order to accomplish this, Nicholas Laveau has to go through Albert and Elena, who are both determined to fight him so that the forces of evil will never have to enter this world to destroy more innocents.

Will they succeed? How can Albert defeat Nicholas, when he is connected to him in a bind that is closer than he can ever realize?

EXCERPT

“Just a curious question. When you said undead... what do you mean?” asked Albert.

Julianna had looked like she did not want to answer at first. Like whatever the answer was, it would not be wise to talk about it. But she finally talked.

“When you get to live longer than a soul can possibly and even magickally hold a body, we call that person undead. Nothing in him could already be considered human – Magickal or otherwise. It is beyond the realm of any system we know. He is not part of the living, or the dead.”

“There are people like him?”

“Talk of them is as fickle as stories handed down – you can’t ever be sure they are real or not unless you meet them. And I know no one who’s ever done that. I consider them a myth.”

“Magickal Soul Mates are myth,” Elena countered. “Yet, we exist.”

Julianna smiled at her daughter reassuringly. “As well as records of you and others that lived before our time. People do know your existence. It’s just that for a while we all thought none has come back or saw each other again in their new lifetimes. Records show you exist. But the undead...” Julianna slowly shook her head. “They are the subject of speculations. They are the stuff in stories whispered in the dark. Having someone survive enough to become one is virtually an impossibility. Noone can just be that powerful – or that evil – to hold that kind of power.”

“What kind of power?” asked husband and wife both, at the same time.

“Why... to hold power that can bind breath into a physical body and make it stay young and alive....

Sandra Ross

The moment Sandra Ross held her first romance novel when she was ten, she knew she was going to write romance. At thirty now, a prolific reader and a freelance writer, she's since then expanded her preferences from just romance to romance with a dash of now trending sub-genres—paranormal , fantasy, sci-fi even, and erotica. She loves challenging herself and would write on a dare. On a normal day, she would be found in her herb garden collecting spices for her kitchen or ingredients for her potions; in her huge eclectic Provencal kitchen with the big modern oven cooking pots and pans of food for her family of one husband and three kids (an ardent daughter and two boisterous sons) that'll probably last for weeks; in her library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and an e-reader in her hands as she reads the latest erotic hit; or scribbling pages upon pages of different erotic lifestyles, searching for the one that feels like it was inspired by just the right mix of passion, story line, and sex. Aside from these activities, the rest of the time she'd be found in front of her laptop typing the latest Sandra Ross concoction for her readers.

    Chapter One

I JUST CAN'T believe that Adair is working with the dark side! Augusta exclaimed.

Actually, I can believe it, Elena said. I've never trusted her.

Oh, I know that she's always had a thing for Albert and that you disliked her for that, Elena. But this is beyond anything I thought she was capable of. She turned to Albert. I assume that you've taken the appropriate measures?

Yes, Augusta, Albert replied. We've surrounded the entire castle with a very strong protection spell and filled the moat with water. Obviously, magick can get someone across the moat, but it will take something a lot stronger to break through the wards.

That's reassuring to hear, my King, Augusta said.

Also, Albert and I have decided that it will be best to have all of you stay here in the castle for now. There's plenty of room and we need all of our strongest power based in one area. Besides, you'll all be safer here than at your homes, Elena explained.

Whatever you feel is best, Augusta said as she looked around the table at the rest of The Council. They all nodded in agreement.

Elena was relieved that they hadn't had to go through any sort of convincing, because she was aware that the members of The Council had their own lives to lead. The fact that they had not objected at all told her that they realized just how serious the situation was.

She and Albert had hired extra help from the village to help Amie and Hudson take care of the castle and the surrounding grounds and out-buildings, too. Hence, each Council member had his or her own lodgings made up and ready.

The Council were busy, too, organizing magickal covens that helped strengthen protection spells and wards in every village and home where the dark force might attack. Additionally, it had been vigilant in gathering intelligence and conducting patrols. They even created spells to protect the non-magickal humans.

There had been fewer incidents to none at all since they had established the King and Queen on their throne. Actually, the throne room was not used much except for special occasions. The Soul Mates were not keen with extravagant posturing and preferred the huge, modern conference hall for meetings.
