About this ebook

A KING, A QUEEN, AND ALWAYS... THE EVIL PLOT
A KINGDOM PLUNGED IN TERROR

Castiel and Faith have by now fully assumed their responsibilities as the King and Queen of the Magickals, and they are thrown into a quandary that is as old as time – someone else wants to take Castiel's throne and his place in his beautiful queen’s bed.

The evil presence of the coming darkness has finally revealed his face and he is one of the most powerful warlocks that ever lived. He also used to be the Voodoo King. But he wants more than the measly authority that he used to have and he feels nothing for humans. What he wants is to conquer the Magickals and exploit their magick to make himself live forever.

But in order to accomplish this, Marcus Duvall has to go through Castiel and Faith, who are both determined to fight him so that the forces of evil will never have to enter this world to destroy more innocents.

Will they succeed? How can Castiel defeat Marcus, when he is connected to him in a bind that is closer than he can ever realize?

EXCERPT

“This is the home of the Book of Death,” said Joorut. “I know not the method of retrieval, but it is told that the book would not lie in this place forever and that someone would eventually come to claim it. If that be you, I cannot say, but you are welcome to try.”

With that, he turned and left them to their task.

Castiel was walking around the edge of the chamber running his hands over the runes, feeling for any hidden catches or mechanisms that might open a doorway or even indicate that something existed. Faith investigated the alcove, but it gave up no secrets either.

“What do you think?” she asked when Castiel joined her by the small opening in the wall.

“I assumed there would be another room, but now I’m not so sure. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s something we need to do that makes the book appear in that alcove.”

“Does this look like a handprint to you?” Castiel pointed at a vaguely hand-shaped indentation on one side of the alcove. “There’s another on the other side.”

Faith reached up and placed her hands in each of the two indentations. She tried pushing, but nothing happened. Not expecting it to be quite so easy, she worked through a litany of spells and castings that might trigger a result, but felt somehow that she was wasting her time.

“What if it takes both of us?” Castiel asked.

They each placed a hand in one of the markings and looked at the alcove expectantly. Nothing happened. Castiel looked at the other runes surrounding the alcove, and although he didn’t understand their meaning, he felt he knew what he needed to do. Castiel reached out and took Faith’s free hand so that they were touching both each other and the hand-shaped indents on the wall.

There was no brilliant burst of light or thunderous noise, but the book sat in the alcove as though it had always been there and they were just now able to see it.

    Chapter One

FAITH JUMPED TO her feet and rushed to her husband's body where it lay sprawled on the stone floor of the small hut. The Mother of Bones rose slowly, followed after her and picked up a mug from her kitchen table. She ladled water from a wooden bucket into the mug and handed it to Faith, who looked at it skeptically and hesitated to take it.

It's just water, the young soothsayer said.

What did you do to him?

The woman laughed and placed the mug on the floor next to Faith. I didn't do a damn thing to him. He just got a little over-excited, that's all. Hopefully he doesn't react like this at every bit of bad news, because there's more to come.

A low groan let them know that Castiel was coming around, and Faith offered him the mug of water when he was finally able to sit up. He had an expression of shock and confusion on his face that reminded Faith of how he had been after they had killed Willa and torn the amulet from his neck, but he seemed not to be suffering any memory lapses this time.

I feel like an idiot, he mumbled.

Faith helped him to his feet and he went to the door to open it and step outside. The cool air and misty droplets of rain that blew in under the hut's awning helped to clear his head. Castiel thought back to the man he had seen in the dream state, and it was clear that he had not been simply looking at an older version of himself. There were subtle differences in the shape of the eyes and jawline of the man he had seen, but the resemblance was still uncanny. It was easy to look at a young man and to compare him to a photo of his father when he had been the same age, but those father--son similarities became far less noticeable as two men aged. Castiel looked so much like his father that it caused him a twinge of worry that he might share the same demented lust for power and hatred as the man who seemed determined to kill him.

    He was so
