Shelly Allen-Rainey
Author, Shelly L. Rainey experienced a devastating loss, one that changed her life forever. After the unexpected early terminations of two pregnancies and a diagnosis of Crohns disease, the young Maryland wife and mother endured the passing of her new born daughter just two days shy of becoming a month old. “After losing my daughter I was overwhelmed with grief and I didn’t know how I was going to make it through each day. My daughter was diagnosed with Necrotizing Enter colitis only two days short of losing her life”, said Rainey. After months of horrifying sleepless nights, Rainey decided to share her experience and write a book that would capture the hearts of many. In the author’s first inspirational memoir, The Fragile Heart, she shares her heartbreak experiences of losing three children and a career due to illness in hopes of inspiring others facing difficult, life altering situations. "My prayer is that this book will be able to touch at least one person's heart and in their brokenness they will be able to experience a true healing that will make them whole again", said Rainey. Since her book release in February 2009, Rainey has traveled to many parts of Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, and Pennsylvania sharing her story and encouraging the hearts of those faced with difficult circumstances. Her powerful message of healing and hope has inspired various book signings, speaking engagements and she has received accolades amongst her peers, as well as those in various leadership positions. Her book has traveled across the globe and continues to touch the hearts and lives of many: Bishop Warner P. Bradby (Baltimore, MD)- After reading this book, I was inspired to serve the Lord even more vigorously. Having known Shelly for years, I have seen the growth in her life and was very impressed with the way that she put her experiences into words. The Fragile Heart is a must read not only for Christians but for everyone who needs encouragement and understanding during trying times. Jaqueline Anthony (Baltimore, MD)- "This book is a true page-turner. Everything is filtered in, to you, emotionally. There seemed to be no end with situation after situation, as I continued my read of "The Fragile Heart". Amazing! I was sad, happy, upset and anxious. Not to mention, just about broken at times. And through it all, I was able to understand the commitment in the author's transformation. Shelly, I commend you for your willingness to open up your heart and invite so many in. You are truly Blessed!" Debra D. DeClout (Women of Destiny LLC; Atlanta Ga)- Shelly has swung open the door and allowed us entry into her once fragile heart. She has granted us the blessing of experiencing her victory in her most trying times. I commend her for writing such a revealing book. Her honest assessment of her life, the descriptive views of her pain and the powerful revelation of a developed relationship with the Lord are hallmarks of this book that will set it, the author and her unique experience in the hearts of the reader. Eileen Morales (Santa Monica, CA)- “Just read your book, it was really inspirational. I just lost my husband in Sept. and he was only 47 and I just got to believe that God is in control of my life and I have to trust and continue to follow Him no matter what..” You can order Shelly Rainey's book right here on Smashwords!! Introduction
When I finally decided to complete this book, I was at a place in my life where I felt my world had completely shattered. I had just gone through a very difficult situation that could have completely broken me. Also, the year before, I endured many trials with my health. I can recall one Sunday hearing a message titled, Drinking from the cup of suffering.
When you suffer for the sake of Christ, sometimes it’s difficult to comprehend exactly what God is trying to do. We spend a lot of time trying to figure out the mind of God, and it’s just not possible.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD (Isaiah 55:7-9 KJV).
I endured many heartbreaking situations and finally hit the point where I wasn’t sure how much more I could take. It was during those difficult times that I needed God the most. Because of all that I had endured, my heart was now in a very fragile state. There is a saying, Time heals all wounds
and there is some truth to that statement. However; it takes the love of God to permanently heal all wounds. Time can give you some relief, but some hurts are so deep that no matter how much time goes by, you find yourself staring heartbreak in the face when you least expect it.
I want to share some of my personal experiences of heartbreak and pain. All of us have endured some type of heartache at some point in our lives. The Fragile Heart talks about life-changing answers to any type of hurt and pain you may have experienced. Most importantly, we will talk about how to receive comfort, deliverance and complete healing through the Word of God.
Chapter 1
The Fragile Heart
Let’s begin by talking about the condition of your heart. There are so many different adjectives used to describe the conditions of one’s heart. You may hear terms like, loving heart,
caring heart,
golden heart,
big heart,
cold heart,
and hardened heart,
but very few people want to talk about the Fragile Heart.
It’s considered taboo to some, and it may be a bit difficult to discuss its reality. When people admit they have a fragile heart, they seem vulnerable and too transparent for themselves and others. You never know just how delicate your heart is until something happens when you feel you have lost total control of everything within your grasp, because of a painful experience that has left you heartbroken in the worst way.
Heartbreak is one of the most excruciating experiences anyone will ever face in his or
