Chapter One - We Need More Stuff
It was a summer afternoon and the Hot Shots players were making their way to the park for their weekly practice. Sid and Uno had got there early. They were walking around the pitch. Uno had a map and Sid had a paint brush. They were trying to paint the white lines
When Hat Trick Boy arrived it started to rain. Within minutes, all the white lines had vanished and the pitch looked just as it had before. But Sid was not defeated. He nodded, which could have meant anything. This time it meant never mind.
‘We’ll try again next week,’ he told Uno.
It was the third week in a row they had tried to put lines on the pitch. The first week they had used bread crumbs. Sid had no idea what happened to the white lines but he did notice there was a lot of bird song that day.
The second week he put down toilet paper. This worked very well until anyone stood on it. By the end of the practice there were no white lines left, but lots of piles of toilet paper with brown stains on them. Even Sid had to admit it looked disgusting and he needed to come up with a better idea.
So this week it was paint, but water based paint, which washes off in water.
‘Let’s try tippex next week,’ Uno suggested. ‘It's water resistant. We can have a bottle each.’
‘Good idea,’ Sid said, even though it wasn’t. In fact, it was a ridiculous idea. It would take them a year to paint lines on
