About this ebook
Clan Chief Ghun comes back from a hunt with a rare, new beast: two legged Hgh. At first, the villagers are wary of Hgh, but he is accepted and given the position of teacher when he shows the villagers how to make a new weapon: the arrow. Lint is the only person still suspicious. Why is Hgh making so many arrows? Why does Hgh go for a walk on the rocky plateau every day? And why is Hgh turning everyone against Lint, even his own Ma. Hgh, Lint decides, has to be stopped!

Stone Age Village
Just in case you have forgotten, we have …
Lint – our hero. He’s short, smart and sharper than a porcupine’s quills.
Ma – Lint’s mother. She’s stronger than an ox and slower than one too. Generally, when Lint needs her, she’s too busy, and when Lint doesn’t want her, she’s hanging around like a bad smell.
Olgan – Lint’s older sister. She attends the boys’ school because no-one knows she’s a girl apart from Lint and Ma. Eventually, you would think, someone might notice she’s not a boy, but it seems to be taking a long time.
Tan – Lint’s baby brother. He doesn’t do very much, except poo.
Clan Chief Ghun – Instead of any police, judges, head teachers, lawyers and government, the clan have Clan Chief Ghun. He struggles to manage all his responsibilities.
Unta – Clan Chief Ghun’s son. Clan Chief Ghun thinks Unta is the most precious child in the village. Everyone else thinks he’s a spoilt little so and so.
Ekk – The mean and lazy ex-teacher. All he wants is his job back. Lint will do anything to stop that from happening.
Magna – The girl’s teacher and the boys’ ex-teacher. Tall, strong, and ferociously intelligent, Magna is a proto-feminist, that means she’s better than all the men around her.
The boys’ school:
Dec – The oldest and a natural leader. He has already begun dreaming of the day he will become the next Clan Chief.
Ithil – Dec’s loyal second in command.
Ayat – Big, strong, loyal, friendly Ayat, he is liked and respected by all the boys.
Jet – Fast and smart, he and Olgan are both best friends and fierce rivals.
Hohn – Tall, with long, dark hair, he once came close to being top of the school line up and now won’t be satisfied until he reaches the top.
Ban – Ban has a strong right arm; it is his most developed muscle. Sometimes it seems as if it is the only part of him that has developed.
Kelc – He has a sister called Chen and he spends more time with her than is good for him. He can do things with a stick (form letters) none of the other boys can do. Sadly for Kelc, this gains him no respect.
The girls’ school:
There are some girls. One of them is Kelc’s sister. She might be called Chen. Lint has no interest in the girls, other than trying to make them scream.
Chapter One
Lint and Tan were playing down by the river when they heard the sound of the men coming back from a hunt. Lint was shaping the soft mud on the riverbank into little huts. He had made a whole village, and had just completed his biggest, most complicated hut yet, when Tan sat on it.
‘Tan!’ he yelled, annoyed at his little brother. ‘Get up.’
Tan got up, but it was too late. The damage had been done. The carefully sculpted hut was ruined. It didn’t look like a hut any more, it looked like a poo instead. Even worse, half the hut was sticking to Tan’s bottom.
‘Tan!’ Lint yelled again, because he still felt annoyed, not because Tan had done anything else.
