    Prologue – Meet the Players

Hat Trick Boy: One day Hat Trick Boy was born. He has been playing football ever since, even when he’s asleep.

Sid: Sid’s a cool head in a crisis and since every Hot Shots match is like a natural disaster, he’s the obvious choice for Captain.

Uno: Uno is a natural defender. He hangs back and tells everyone else what to do. He’s not so good at playing the ball. When the rest of the team see him prepare to kick the ball, they cross their fingers. Sometimes Hat Trick Boy shuts his eyes and winces too.

Unknown player 1: Unknown player 1 partners Uno in defence. When Sid put up posters asking for new players, he is the only one came forward. Because he asked to join Hot Shots I have a feeling he’s either very brave or not very bright.

Unknown player 2: Unknown player 2 plays in the midfield with Hat Trick Boy and Sid. He didn’t see Sid’s posters. He’s not even a footballer. I think he plays golf. He just happened to be walking past when Sid needed an extra player for the Hot Shots friendly against the Hammers.

Unknown player 3: Unknown player 3 is a striker and friends with Unknown player 1, who dragged him along. We don’t know anything else about him. He’s going to have to assert himself massively on the pitch if he wants to play a bigger role in my story and keep his position up front in the team.

Cowpat: Cowpat is the goalkeeper and he’s also a loose cannon. This is because every now and then his bottom explodes. He also has some very impressive statistics: Games 1, Goals 1, Goals Scored Against 0, Burps 20, Farts 80. Since every game is two 20 minute halves, that means Cowpat is producing a burp every 2 minutes, and a fart every 30 seconds. Wow! Beat that.

    Chapter One - The Meeting

It was Sid who called the meeting. He was Captain. That meant he had to do everything. The others just had to turn up. Some of them
