Five Dollar Bill
A young boy went to visit his grandfather who lived down the end of his road. As he walked up the sidewalk, he found his grandfather sitting in a rocking chair on the porch drinking lemonade. Hi Grandpa!
cried the boy. Howdy boy
, replied the grandfather. So what brings you down to these parts?
the grandfather asked. Just wanted to see you grandpa
, replied the boy. The grandfather, knowing the boy quite well, looked straight at the boy and asked, What’s the real reason?
With a tear in his eye the boy told his grandfather about how a group of kids were getting together to play baseball. Two captains were selected and they picked the teams. When it came down to him they told him he was worthless and to go home. The grandfather warmly smiled and wiped the tear from the boy’s face. He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a five-dollar bill. How much is this?
the grandfather asked. Why five dollars
, replied the boy. The grandfather crumbled up the bill into a little ball and then asked, How much is it worth now?
Five dollars,
replied the boy. The grandfather then dropped the crumble ball onto the ground and smashed it into the dirt with his foot. And now?
asked the grandfather. Still five dollars grandpa,
replied the boy.
The grandfather picked up the five-dollar bill, brushed off the dirt and flatten it out. Even if we crumbled it, stomped on it, or threw dirt on it; it still keeps its value. The same rule applies to you.
Now go get yourself some ice cream,
said the grandfather as he gave the boy the five-dollar bill.
Many times of our life, we feel like we have been kicked and grounded into the dirt. We feel as though we are worthless. However, no matter what happens you can never lose your value. You are on this Earth for a reason! Always remember that!
Bang Down the Door
There once was a man who lived in a high-rise apartment building. One day while walking down the hall to his apartment, he noticed smoke coming out from underneath his neighbor’s door. He ran down and started banging on the door. Fire, fire, get out you guys!
he cried. Nobody answered from inside. He tried opening the door but it was locked. He put all of his weight against the door but he still couldn’t open it. Suddenly he noticed a firebox halfway down the aisle. He ran down to it, smashed out the glass and removed the ax that was inside. He quickly ran back and started chopping
