A Practical Guide For New Parents

About this ebook
As a Pediatrician, years of experience helped me to determine what would go into this book. It consists of information I found myself repeating to every mother during office visits in the first three years of the child's life. Women who have already raised their children say the same thing after reading it: "I wish I'd had this when I was raising my children". The favorite sections seem to be Sleep-How To Get It, Toilet Training or Learning Control and Avoiding Eating Problems. Explaining the little details was appreciated. It was time-consuming but it was new for everyone. "The Devil is in the details."

PREFACE
This volume is a compilation of facts and explanations which my patients have found useful in the care of their new babies.
The aim of this book is to provide new parents with an idea of how normal infants may differ. By understanding this, they can save themselves a lot of unnecessary worry. Expecting a baby to do only certain things, or trying to force the infant into a routine, will surely make the whole family tense and frustrated. For example, every woman knows she will feel weepy and odd for two to four weeks after delivery. This doesn’t prevent her from feeling this way, but it does help her handle it. She understands it’s natural and nothing is wrong. In the same way, the information in these pages will not prevent all problems in babies, but it will make them easier to handle.
CHAPTER 1
A SIMPLIFIED WAY TO MAKE FORMULA
New mothers seem to be worried about making formula. The following technique takes less time, is flexible and can save money.
1) Wash bottles and nipples in warm, soapy water, using bottle and nipple brushes to reach all corners.
2) Force soapy water and then rinse water through each nipple to be sure opening is not clogged.
3) Rinse bottles and nipples thoroughly in clear warm water.
4) Fill each bottle with water directly from the tap and put the nipple and cap in place.
5) Make sure each cap is loose before putting the bottles up to boil.
6) Add water to the sterilizer so that the level is just below the level of the fluid inside the bottles.
7) Begin timing after the water in the sterilizer has begun to boil, and let it boil 25 minutes.
8) After 25 minutes, take the bottles out and let them stand at room temperature. When they’re cool,
