About this audiobook

A paladin, an assassin, a forger, and a scholar ride out of town. It's not the start of a joke, but rather an espionage mission with deadly serious stakes. T. Kingfisher's new novel begins the tale of a murderous band of criminals (and a scholar), thrown together in an attempt to unravel the secret of the Clockwork Boys, mechanical soldiers from a neighboring kingdom that promise ruin to the Dowager's city.

If they succeed, rewards and pardons await, but that requires a long journey through enemy territory, directly into the capital. It also requires them to refrain from killing each other along the way! At turns darkly comic and touching, Clockwork Boys puts together a broken group of people trying to make the most of the rest of their lives as they drive forward on their suicide mission.

Love T. Kingfisher's books and this is a great one. Shares some plot elements with Nettle& Bone. Be prepared to go straight into the next one as the ending isn't in any way resolved.

I really loved this book, I normally go for horror/thriller books but after listening to her books The Hollow Places & The Twisted Ones I decided to try this one. Great narration & story, I’m looking forward to the next one!

Great fantasy book. Inteligent, witty main character. This is the second I book I read from the author and I will definitely look for others.
The only negative is that it is not a complete story - the heroes start on the quest and this book chronicles just their journey to the destination. Fortunately there is a sequel out already which hopefully fixes it.

An unmatched cast of quirky characters kept on task by flesh-eating tattoos keep up an amusing patter as they move toward their quest to stop the clockwork boys. Highly recommended for anyone who loves strange worlds skillfully crafted and woven with magic and humor.

The male characters are VERY two dimensional. The writer give a comical sketch of how males think, act and Behave. The world is falling to pieces and yet they have time to fight each other over the female. Total demeaning to both genders. This whole book is a romance novel posing as a fantasy novel. The fantasy world is under threat from a unstoppable army, yet the focus is all in the bad boy and the good guy fighting over the female protagonist. The paladin knight comically ends up literally worshiping the ground the main female character walks on. Very droll and cliché.
