About this audiobook

In the second novel in acclaimed author Sandra Owens’s Aces & Eights series, passions—and tempers—flare as one star-crossed couple gets a second chance at love.

Covert FBI agent Court Gentry loves his brothers, his job, and his Harley-Davidson. Once he loved a girl, too, but when she broke his heart, he put his emotions on lockdown—until she crosses his path again.

On vacation six years ago, free-spirited Lauren Montgomery fell hard for Court Gentry. She returned home happier than ever, only to descend into a spiral of abuse by her ex-husband, Stephan. When Stephan threatened to kill any man who touched her, Lauren cut Court from her life—but not from her heart.

When Lauren and Court reunite after her friend marries his brother, Court guards himself against the person who made him feel such intense passion and pain. Except the undeniable spark between them is impossible to contain and heating up fast. Six years ago, it was love. Now, it’s just lust. Keeping it merely physical is a foolproof plan…right?

When Stephan is released from prison, Lauren can’t outrun her past anymore, and Court vows to protect her. But with Lauren in imminent danger, Court must question his heart and risk his life to save the woman he never stopped loving.

While this is a good story, there are a few things that bothered me. First of all, this chick annoyed the hell out of me. Even after realizing what Court was, she kept saying constantly how she thought he and his brothers would get killed. Even after him repeatedly showing her their capabilities she acted like they were regular Joes. I was also baffled that she wasn't kept better protected considering her involvement with an FBI agent. She just seemed pretty free for someone in her situation. Why was she freely answering the door? If I had a dangerous man after me, common sense would tell me to stay the eff away from the door. I would also think that an FBI agent would refrain from reminding her of that danger. It wasn't until after all of that that Court decided he wouldn't let her out of his sight? I also can't imagine dangerous, supposedly powerful men like her ex being as stupid as they were portrayed. I'm also thinking the cellphone she had on her would have been found pretty quickly. You can't tell me they wouldn't have patted her down while she was passed out. It was irritating enough every time she said she was going to leave, but then she was unsure of his profession and whether that would be an issue. Seriously? If you truly love someone, you accept them as they are. That's my belief anyway. I wanted to slap the woman. Why was there no concern for her dad and sister sooner? There were a lot of holes in this story. There were also places that were well thought out. Overall, the story is good.

Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. I am enjoying this series. This was the second book, and it is Court's and Lauren. Court and Lauren had met six years ago in college, and had a wonderful week where they both fell in love, and thought that they would continue there brief affair when they return to there life, but things changed. Lauren was attacked from her ex-husband and she breaks up with Court, and he never knew why. Lauren wanted to protect him, but he was so heartbroken, that he felt abandoned, bringing home memories of his mother walking out. Six years later, and all hell brakes lose, and they get reunited, but Lauren does not want Court to know the reason she broke up, and Court is still hurt and does not want to get emotionally involved. I understand that she had her reason, but she did annoy me a little, and Court, I did love, but if I were him, I would let go. I loved reading about Alex and Madison, I would have liked a little more from them, but this was not there book. Can't wait for Nate's.

This book may have triggers for domestic violence. Please beware.I love this series and these brothers. The chance of reconnecting with a past lover is always a genre that I love reading and Ms. Owens does an awesome job. You could feel the anger that Court starts with and the eventual forgiveness he had for Lauren. When their feelings finally get sorted, it was a beautiful thing. I absolutely can not wait for the next two books. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Court and Lauren have a past be it only brief, they met on the summer break and their attraction had been instant and hot, they fell in love. But Lauren has another past she'd rather forget which comes back to haunt her and she has to say goodbye to Court...and she barely comes out of her hell alive.Court is a FBI Agent and years later Lauren again finds herself in danger and needs his help. Now Court's heart is in danger, it's been broken once already six years ago, can he protect himself from the only woman he's loved? An exciting story that had interesting characters and a well developed storyline, the action, drama and suspense in the story had just the right tension that kept it fast paced and exciting.A very enjoyable story, I look forward to the next book in the series.
