About this audiobook
New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery is at her heart-stirring best in this witty, richly layered story about friendship, love, and breaking free.
In high school, studious Jayne Scott and wild child Rebecca Worden became unlikely best friends—a tie that endured even after Rebecca fled her family to live overseas. After Jayne's mother passed away, she became part unpaid assistant, part surrogate daughter to the wealthy Wordens. But now, ten years later, Rebecca is coming home to L.A. to cause havoc for Elizabeth, the mother who all but rejected her. And Jayne finds herself pulled deeper into the Wordens' complicated family dynamics—especially when Rebecca's brother, David, returns as well.
David is the man Jayne always wanted and knew she could never have. But when he gravitates toward her in spite of Elizabeth's protests, her vow to escape the family's shadow is put to the ultimate test. And as lies are shattered and true feelings exposed, Jayne must decide where loyalty ends, and love begins. . . .

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5While the characters were somewhat entertaining I found a whole story entirely too predictable.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I like reading these types of books because they give me a good feeling. This one left me angry multiple times and the unhappy times were long and the joyous ones so quick.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Charming read. Predictable sweet when it counts. I found myself relaxing while enjoying my read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fun listen. Looking for the next book by this author.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I had difficulty finishing this book. I’m not sure if it was because of the narrator’s voice making all the characters sound whinny. I never contacted with the characters they were too mean & whinny.
Don’t judge the book by me, listen for yourself. Susan Mallory is one of my favorite authors. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It's a relief to read a book I can rate highly (I've had a few duds lately). A friend sent me this book in a box of books. I've read other Nicholas Sparks books in the past.I ended up liking Landon more than I thought I would at the beginning of the book. His character really grows in the course of the book. He starts off as a 17 year old who's more concerned with appearance than substance. Jamie comes across as almost too good to be true, but she's so sweet. If it were real life, I'd say God gave her the understanding of "an older soul" because she seems to understand many life lessons that her peers haven't yet grasped. I liked that passages from the Bible were included and that reading the Bible was one of the things that Landon and Jamie did together. I also like that Landon didn't abandon their relationship when things got tough, and that the town (or at least church) rallied behind Jamie after she and her father shared their news.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Absolutely fabulous!!!!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I forget how much I enjoy Susan's book and then I find a new one and am so glad that I did.
Great easy read.
