About this audiobook

No war can be fought with clean hands. Not even the ones waged for the right reasons. Not even the ones you win.

Tisaanah bargained away her own freedom to save those she left behind in slavery. Now, bound by her blood pact, she must fight the Orders' war-and Max is determined to protect her at all costs.

But when a betrayal tears apart Ara, Max and Tisaanah are pushed into an even bloodier conflict. Tisaanah must gamble with Reshaye's power to claim an impossible victory. And Max, forced into leadership, must confront everything he hoped to forget: his past, and his own mysterious magic.

All the while, darker forces loom-far darker, even, than the Orders' secrets.

As Tisaanah and Max are ensnared in a web of ancient magic and twisted secrets, one question remains: what are they willing to sacrifice for victory? For power? For love?

Contains mature themes.

Book is great but highly recommend you mostly physically read if you can, and then do the audiobook when you want to do something like clean or whatever because the narrators are kinda ass. Though I love the women’s narration for Aefes sections idk why. Her Tisaanah ones don’t hit as good mostly because her Max voice is ? Actually poor Max in both the woman’s and man’s rendition of his voice it’s …. Not good. The book is incredible tho ?? brace yourself for Empire of Storms-esq ending ?

I liked this story but I will say it was long in some parts and there were many difficult parts in this story. I love Max and Tisaanha, I enjoy their story together and each of them as separate people too. The whole story introducing us to the Fae took awhile and the flipping between POVs was alot at first but I am glad for the backstory. What happened to Aefe was horrible and could not believe the end result. I cannot stand Nura and I hope she feels the regret of all of her horrible acts. My heart is breaking and I need to listen to the next book right away

I love this series!!! I am reading the paperback and then listening to the audiobook while I’m at work. Amazing story but for the love of all that is good, someone please inform Dan Calley to STOP BREATHING SO HEAVILY. It drives me absolutely insane and anytime it’s a Max chapter I am tempted to just skip and read later when I am able to read the physical copy. The cadence of his voice sounds like he is constantly in chaos and is being crushed by rocks so he can’t breathe properly. It’s terrible. And his voice for Zeryth is like a whiny old mouse and I can’t stand it. If it was based just on his performance, a solid 2. But the female narrator Esther Wane is fantastic. I love her!! She really holds it down and immerses you in the story.
If it weren’t for Dan, I’d give this a 5 because the plot is wonderful and Esther is great. But he really drags me down.
