- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I’m at chapter 6 and all the book has talked about so far is different runners experiences in the form of a story about their path. They describe different aspects of performance and achievement but it’s really monotonous. The narrators voice is also monotonous. The combination makes it difficult to keep listening. I imagine there’s some good content buried in later chapters but I’m not sure I’ll make it!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book with lots of good advice and engaging examples. Will help push me in the future.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great content. I would recommend this book. Very entertaining how each chapter tells the story of an athlete or two who has overcome physical and/or mental obstacles. Helps a person think outside the box.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really loved the journalistic style of Matt writing and narration. All the stories included in this audiobook had a strong emotional side to them, but this was never emphasised in the tone of voice. The emotional stress these athletes were subjected to at different stages of their career are universal in endurance sports, whether your are a pro or not, but the way each decided to cope with it is unique to each individual. Knowing that you are not alone in feeling the way you do about your abilities or the value of your training efforts, makes this audio book well worth your time.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best written sports and motivations science books I have read.
It is devoid of many tropes and the writing is fantastic. It felt like riveting sports journalism but with clear, research-based messages. Anchored in coherent anecdotes and thrills.
I think it’s one of the better places to start when it comes to mindset and performance. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a book! I enjoyed every last second of it and learned so much, thank you ?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A lot of examples on mindset and helps you learn from other athletes mistakes!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love the way the book describes the stories and how the author talks about the psychology of the subjects.
The thing that I personaly got out of it is the question about percieved value and how personal meaning comes to play.
To me the qeustion, How bad do you want it is really the qeustion of what drives you and why do you want it.
And the the idea of percieved effort is really great. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really enjoyed reading through the all the athletes experiences in this book. It was a nice mix of personal experiences and science. Always enjoy Matt's books. He's a great asset to the running community!!
