James Smith

James Smith (1737-1813) was a frontiersman, farmer and soldier in British North America. Born on November 26, 1737 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in an area now part of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, in 1955 Smith worked on the Braddock Road, a road built west from Alexandria, Virginia in support of Gen. Edward Braddock’s ill-fated expedition against the French, when he was captured by Delaware Indians and then given over to the French. He was adopted by a Mohawk family, ritually cleansed, and made to practice tribal ways—ultimately gaining respect for Indian culture. He escaped near Montreal, but was jailed by the French for four months until his release in a prisoner exchange with the British. He returned to the Conococheague Valley in Pennsylvania and took up farming. During Pontiac’s War, he fought in the 1763 Battle of Bushy Run and accompanied the 1764 British expedition led by Henry Bouquet into the Ohio Country. In 1765, he led the “Black Boys”, a group of Pennsylvania men, in a nine-month rebellion against British rule ten years before the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War. Col. Smith participated in the war of the Pennsylvania militia, initially as captain, and was made a colonel in 1778. By the late 1780s, he and his family were living in Bourbon County, Kentucky, where he served as a member of the Kentucky General Assembly for a number of years. Col. Smith later became a Presbyterian missionary to the Native Americans, aided by the knowledge he had acquired of their customs in his early captivity. He was also an author, publishing a memoir about his captivity by Native Americans in his Narrative in 1799, and in 1812 an in-depth analysis of Native-American fighting techniques, based on observations during his captivity. Col. Smith died on April 11, 1913 in Green County, Kentucky, aged 75.

It didn't make me inspired. Maybe because I've already read many books with this theme. Also he promotes eating meat when humanity needs to change eating habits to more plant based in order to save the environment .

Very simplistic, ignores a lot of individual factors, but the rating is mostly due to very monotonous voice and reading

I was looking forward to reading this book from the moment I found out about it on social media. I liked James Smith's style in his posts and videos and was very curious about the content. Although it has a lot of relevant information and some game changers, I can't say t blew me away. It was a good listen, I even listened to some chapters twice, trying to absorb all the info.
If you are looking for step-by step instructions about how to change your diet and lose weight, it might be better to hire him as a PT, but if you want to listen to some information that is different from what you'll read in social media influencers' that eat 3 salad leaves a day posts, read this. It has documented info, offers plenty of examples and can be a good foundation to a better, leaner, stronger you

By a self-acclaimed master coach, purports to give you a diet without sacrificing your eating pleasure. He emphasizes the importance of adding selected supplements and paying attention to sleep and exercise. A bit confusing at first read, so I think I will have to go through it again with more attention.

I really enjoy James's no bullshit approach to life. I agree it is NOT a diet book, I love that he takes the time to debunk myths and give you tidbits of advice for your 'health' journey. And I say health journey because he not only talks about fat loss but also how to overall improve your life and your well being.
For me, it was a smidge repetitive as I just finished Atomic Habits (which was amazing) and he sorta repeats a couple of things that were said in that book ..and yes he gave credit to Clear...and I also been in a improving my life literature kick for the last year and so.
His chapter on Menstrual Cycle and Fat Loss, as well as exercising versus training were great. Definitely made me consider new things/approaches to a wellness regime and actually work on a goal I can train for instead of just exercise.
Worth the read, or the listen. It was a short enough book with great information....

and FYI, love how he pronounces Vitamin D with his British but a bit Australian accent.
