About this audiobook
Calista Langley operates an exclusive "introduction" agency in Victorian London, catering to respectable ladies and gentlemen who find themselves alone in the world. But now, a dangerously obsessed individual has begun sending her trinkets and gifts suitable only for those in deepest mourning-a black mirror, a funeral wreath, a ring set with black jet stone. Each is engraved with her initials. Desperate for help and fearing that the police will be of no assistance, Calista turns to Trent Hastings, a reclusive author of popular crime novels. Believing that Calista may be taking advantage of his lonely sister, who has become one of her clients, Trent doesn't trust her. Scarred by his past, he's learned to keep his emotions at bay, even as an instant attraction threatens his resolve. But as Trent and Calista comb through files of rejected clients in hopes of identifying her tormentor, it becomes clear that the danger may be coming from Calista's own secret past-and that only her death will satisfy the stalker...

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Calista Langley supports herself and her younger brother by running an "introductions" agency. She helps lonely people meet one another. However, she has begun to receive some odd gifts - mourning jewelry. That and she feels that she is being watched. She finds herself quite uneasy and that uneasiness escalates when the fortune hunter who threw her over for a rich woman comes back and wants to rekindle their relationship.Trent Hastings has come to her agency, not as a client, but to check her out because his sister has become one of her clients. At first they rub each other the wrong way but they are soon working together to find out who is stalking her.Along the way they find that other young women have received the same gifts of mourning jewelry and were later killed by having their throats slit. Trent, Calista, his sister and her brother are in a race to find the murderer before Calista becomes the next victim.I liked that Trent was an author of mysteries and that his fame provided an entry into the homes of a number of people they wanted to interview. I also liked that everyone had an opinion, which they were very eager to share with Trent, about how the story should be written. This was a darker Amanda Quick novel but very entertaining. I liked the Victorian setting. I also liked the relationship that grew between Trent and Calista.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another good romantic suspense from JAK. Nothing surprising or unique but a fun, easy read for a lazy vacation day.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was an interesting Victorian romance with a twist on a problem more heard of in today's world -- a stalker. Not just any stalker, but one who sends memento mori (things that are designed to remind the living of those who have died) with the initials of our heroine -- suggesting she is not long for this world. Of course an eligible man is in the picture and volunteers to help track down the villain. Appropriately, this isn't a terribly steamy romance, but one that has a decent mystery going on. I fell in love with the characters and wish there were a sequel. I would recommend it to anyone who likes romances and mysteries.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Til Death Do Us Part is a Victorian romance that features Calista Langley, a young woman who runs an agency that introduces single people to each other in a series of salons held at her home. She's also been receiving anonymous gifts suitable for women in mourning, engraved with her initials. She meets Trent Hastings when he comes to see her as a potential client. She eventually discovers that he has come to make sure she has not been defrauding his younger sister Eudora, who is one of her clients. Hastings is the author of a successful mystery series that is popular with Londoners. He becomes intrigued by Calista and they team together to discover who is sending the memento mori to her.
I used to love Victorian romances and Amanda Quick is one of my favorite go-to authors when I feel like reading that genre. While her stories are very focused on action and dialogue, the details regarding the memento mori objects and meeting Trent's mystery fans were interesting and humorous.
I very much enjoyed the characters in this book, which had a good combination of mystery, romance, and witty repartee. Of course, it's quite formulaic but that's exactly what I expected when I started the book. It was still an intriguing story and I learned a lot about memento mori. Next time I'm in the mood for a cute Victorian romance I'll definitely pick up another book by Amanda Quick, aka Jayne Ann Krentz. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Kept me guessing until the end! Fun "whodunnit" read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was my first read by Amanda Quick and I was pleasantly surprised. It was rich in historical feels, had an intriguing plotline, and told the story of two unique characters. There was danger, romance, and plenty of mystery. I would call it a romantic Sherlock Holmes of the sorts.
Trent and Calista are entangled in a dangerous web of murders and have to go digging in order to save one another. They search for clues that will point them to the killer, but with each step closer, another murder arises that pulls them in a new direction. I was on the edge of my seat racking brain trying to figure out who it was... Unfortunately, I failed.
What intrigued me most about this book was Trent and his past. I loved that he was scarred and I couldn't wait to hear his story. After I got his answers though my interest in the story faded a smidge. I still enjoyed the plot, but at times it did feel drug out. We get lots of filler information... which isn't a bad thing because we need it, but it did bring the pace down a bit. I think secretly I wanted Trent to be connected to the murder. Now that would have been quite the twister... Plus, it would have put the focus on Trent where I felt it deserved to be. Don't get me wrong I liked Calista, I just found her to be a bit boring. It could have been the time period that made her more reserved and underwhelming, but something about her just didn't work for me.
Overall, I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to other readers. It was quick to pull me into another time period and Trent held me attention through the final page.. I think historical/thriller romance fans will definitely enjoy it. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I don't buy Jayne Krentz books any more and this one made me wonder why I even borrow them from the library. This one was supposed to have some mystery and suspense. OK, but the villain spends a page and a half (minimum) monologuing about why and how she did everything. The romance was another by-the-numbers affair. Krentz used to be such fun to read. Now everything feels so stale and mechanical.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another story by Jayne Ann Krentz writing as Amanda Quick that features Victorian London, no paranormal, but two people trying to find a place for themselves in society. Trying to keep respectable while at the same time trying to be true to themselves. Calista Langley operates an exclusive introduction agency and tries to help respectable ladies and gentlemen to find at least companionship in this world that makes it difficult for them to do so. But now someone is sending her mourning trinkets, suggesting that she's not long for this world and she has to find out who it is before she falls victim to this. Into her life steps Trent Hastings a popular crime novelist who is suspicious of Calista but the two of them team up to find out the truth, will their burgeoning romance survive the truth about them both?I enjoyed it, the two sparked well off each other and it kept me reading past where the bathwater was getting pretty cool. I guessed some of what was going on but the story was kept moving and while some of the herrings weren't completely red the full story wasn't obvious until the end.Well done Victorian middle-class murder mystery.
