About this audiobook

With a hefty insurance settlement in hand, Ruby has fled the city for a little blue house in rural Minnesota. She's only hoping for a new, healthier lifestyle, but she gets a lot more than she bargained for when a soulful playwright living in his great-aunt's dilapidated mansion, a local vice principal with romantic designs and a sinister vibe, and a mysterious black cat enter her life just in time for Halloween. Will Ruby's life come crashing down on her even worse than the car that put her in this situation? Or will she follow her new feline friend to happiness in an old (allegedly) haunted house?

Iris Forester

Iris Forester is never happier than when she’s tossed everything aside to follow one of the story threads that cross her path. She shares her home place with eagles, ravens and owls — but also makes time every year to spend in New York City. When she’s not writing, Iris works with paint, clay, and various difficult creatures.

Cute story. Not spooky at all just a nice small town Halloween feel to it.

What a sweet and gentle autumn read with likable characters and great narration. Mostly predictable but very enjoyable nonetheless. Perfect for a fall evening.

If you want some serious fluff that's set in a Disney/Hallmark Channel world, go for it. It's very pleasant and sunshiny. And there are no grammatical errors, which is not to be taken for granted. However...this reads as if it were written by a middle school student, with a 6th-grader's experience with and perspective on what it is to be an adult and on how professionals in public schools, law enforcement, and the legal profession behave. The adults behave like and talk like juveniles, even the ones in professional positions. And the relationship is shallow ands sophomoric. Most of the book is based around their experience they have spending a few hours together and then sleeping together once. Truly, it's as if the author was temporarily possessed by a 6th grader who binge-watches Hallmark Channel romances and tried to come up with her own plot. It's utterly bizarre and baffling to me. And she mocks a guy who takes his date to a diner after a movie (instead of a bar) and (oh, the horror) orders tea and ties the bag to the cup handle. What a loser. The part with the cat was sweet...
