People often have reservations about collaborating with a partner or group. At its core, collaboration is a relationship; and most of us have been burned by a relationship, whether personal or professional., in the past. This creates a continued challenge around overcoming the pain of developing enough trust to work with other people. Our brains want to protect us, so it’s often easier to remember the hurts and negative outcomes of previous experiences more clearly than the positive ones. Coaches interested in collaborating in their business should consider what type of collaboration makes the most sense for their business at the time and look to work with people whose skill sets are complementary rather than oppositional.
